Chapter 3

“What? You’re leaving the company to me indefinitely while you’re in the Philippines, bruv?” Charlie’s slightly thick brows furrowed as he gave Thaz a measuring look. They were in Thaz’s luxurious office in London. It had a modern design, with its walls painted in beige on the left and gleaming golden brown on the right. There was a glass wall that showed the London cityscape. From there, he could see the tip of Big Ben with the afternoon skyline painted with bright golden orange color in the background. Thaz’s office desk was made of glass, which had square golden brown feet. Thaz pulled his five feet and eleven inch height as he left his brown swivel chair to face his younger brother, who was an inch shorter than him and was almost of the same build as he. Both pairs of blue eyes met and held with seriousness that hung in the air that autumn day. Thaz shoved his hands inside his slacks front pockets and let out a small sigh. “Harriet thinks it’s good for me, bruv. Besides, I trust that you can run it without problems with Leo.” His eyes transferred to his executive secretary and personal assistant, who stayed silent and stood behind his brother. Charlie looked over his shoulder to glance at the tall, green-eyed and freckled-faced lean man in his forties. The latter’s arm was folded to cradle a tablet where he entered all notes and others for easy access. Thaz noticed his assistant had his dark brown hair cut shorter than usual, emphasizing his oval face and fleshy nose. Thaz’s own natural brown hair was short—blown out with tapered sides. He then sniffed audibly and slightly scrunched up his straight nose that had narrow nostrils. “You know that Leo has been serving me for more than a decade now, he knows the ins and outs of his job, and he’s also a good friend. So, you can work closely together and will get along fine. I’m sure of it.” Thaz shrugged his wide shoulders with confidence, eyeing his brother once more. Thinking that he had to do this was a difficult decision to make. But then again, it was only natural for him to be indecisive from time to time in some certain things, given his condition. He was in therapy for some years, and he sometimes slipped back to his disorder and anxiety a few times but was currently on the road to cure with the help of his cousin. His thirty-five-year-old brother slowly nodded. “I’m sure of that, bruv. I know that Leo is your most trusted employee. Of course, I’d support you whatever your decision is. I’ll do my best to handle the company while you do your important thing in a nice, tropical country.” His brother’s oval face split into a grin, and Charlie tapped his shoulder. “I appreciate your understanding, bruv.” He nodded to his brother. “I already gave the memo to my trusted adviser and chief operating officer, too.” “Great! Mr. Taylor’s indeed very capable and trustworthy. He’s been here since when Dad was still alive.” Charlie ran his fingers in his comb-over brown hair (parted to one side) and pinched his Greek nose. “Then, it’s settled, bruv. When are you going again?” “In a couple days.” “Then, you have time to have dinner with me and Maisie tomorrow perhaps?” His brother looked hopeful. Thaz knew that his brother wanted their family to be tight as it could be. So, he thought for a moment, glancing at Leo, who just nodded at him. *** It was mid-morning when Thaz arrived at the private beach resort with a big house in Bacong. He acquired this residence more than a week before he arrived. He could feel the heat of the sun, too different from the London atmosphere. Thaz had just paid the pedicab driver in his late twenties. The latter helped him move his two luggage and placed them near the open gate, which was made of iron and painted with reddish brown color. He stared at the beautiful two-story house that was made of concrete and glass. The gable roof was made of red shingles. The house did look the same as it was in the picture when he bought it through a lawyer. “Hi, Sir! You must be Mr. Balthazar Harris Evans,” said the elderly man and thrust a hand forward to shake his. Thaz only hesitated for a moment and shook the older man’s wrinkled hand. “Yes, I am. And you are Jacob, the one who’s taking care of the house while no one’s living here, aren’t you?” he guessed. “Yes, yes, Sir! Welcome to the Philippines!” The brown-skinned man grinned, revealing a couple of missing side teeth on the left. The man had short peppered hair and a round face. He was a small man, about half of Thaz’s frame. However, the man seemed to be very capable at his age of almost sixty. He helped Thaz move his luggage to the house. But then the Brit saw a seemingly wrapped parcel on the doorstep, at the porch. He was surprised to see such a thing at his newly bought beach house. Did Maisie or Charlie know where I’d stay? he asked himself. But it’s impossible. I didn’t divulge this property to them. “It seems someone already gave you a gift, sir,” Jacob observed. “Which is weird.” The old man merely laughed. “I’ll just bring your luggage inside, sir.” Thaz nodded and thanked the old man while he unwrapped the book. His eyes went round when he discovered it was a boudoir book of a seductive girl who looked familiar to him. He instantly felt attracted to the Filipina beauty as he flipped through the pages where her sexy and sizzling photos were displayed. He could see the scanty underwear she wore that left little to his imagination. He could feel himself grow hard, which was noticeable as his pants grew tight. There was one particular picture that grabbed his attention, where she knelt on the slightly messy bed, facing right sideways to the camera. She thus displayed her curves and edges perfectly. His eyes focused on her round bum, wherein she slightly pulled her sexy panties down with her sultry eyes focused on the camera. Bloody bird! He was totally gobsmacked. He had never seen such a boudoir book in his entire life, but he did see a Playboy magazine before. A few times. Hence, this was a different experience for him. On the last page of the boudoir book was her “new” cell phone number and the word “Tequila” scribbled on it. “Tequila?” he murmured with confusion.
