Chapter 4- Survivors

1839 Words
Alora’s POV    Over the course of the next five months, the thirteen of us Gods got to know each other and formed tight friendships. We also learned a lot of new things about ourselves. Aziel and I learned that we were the children of The God Horus and that’s why we grew up without a father. All of us had grown up with only our mothers.     I learned that my eyes now would reveal man's true nature and the future of mankind. Aziel’s eyes can see man’s lies and mankind's past. All of us could manipulate our bodies to show our God-like bodies or not. Aziel and I could make our wings appear or disappear at will. We could even turn back into our old human forms if we wanted to.     Since the radiation wave, we all watched as governments and countries fell apart. So many people are dead and gone now because of what happened, but we still didn’t know why it had happened. We weren’t told what caused it and I honestly didn’t care for the past. I cared only for the future.     We built a city on the spot that we had been called to that day when the old world ended. We wanted a fresh place instead of occupying a city where thousands had died. We named our new city Fortuna. It was built quickly with the help of all us Gods working together with a handful of humans we had helped already. The other Gods decided to name me the queen of Fortuna which I found sweet but I didn’t feel like a queen, just a simple leader that was trying to help others. That’s all I wanted to be.     The city was large and seemed to keep growing with more humans that we found trying to survive. So far we had nine hundred people in our care. We made sure to build a wall around the city to keep threats out and keep us all safe.     We had encountered several monsters and Titans already trying to take over our city. They had tried to kill us and the humans that were in our care. Monsters such as cerberus and a dragon tried attacking us. I knew there were so many more out there we hadn’t encountered yet, which means there were still so many more people out there that still needed to be saved.     After several weeks of us not finding any new people, I decided that we needed to go out and start searching for survivors further away from the city. Several of us had found more people that way and it seemed to have good results so we kept on traveling further each time we went out.      One day I decided to go out on my own to see if I could find any survivors. Aziel and Phoebe, the daughter of Ares, went on a trip to find survivors together. All I had with me on this outing was my sword, which I figured would be enough.    After flying for about three hours in one direction I decided to stop and rest. I had a feeling that I would need to travel far in order to find more survivors. With this in mind I would keep flying in the same direction for as long as it took to find anyone else. It was probably a mistake going alone but I was already out here.     I took off again and flew for another two days, stopping to rest and sleep when I needed to. I finally spotted someone walking alone on the ground below me early one morning. This person was in a once flourishing town that had since been abandoned after the radiation. There were ghost towns everywhere now and it made me shudder to think how many people had died.     I swooped close to find it was a man walking. I found a spot close by to land so I could talk with him. Once I had landed on the ground I made my wings disappear and approached the man on foot. When I got close I could see he was close to my age. He was wearing blue jeans and a tattered gray shirt. He had a backpack on with a ball cap on top of his head. He was also wearing hiking boots, which was smart when traveling around these days.     My eyes let me see his true nature. He was kind, smart and gentle. I glimpsed his future to see he would be a close friend to me and he would be talking with his hands a lot.      “Hi,” I said with a bright sweet smile.     “Hi. I’m Roman,” he said smiling back at me.     “I’m Alora.”    “It’s great to meet you Alora. Are you the God I’ve been hearing about? The one taking people to a safe place?” he asked.     “Hearing about? You’ve met others that have survived?” I asked happily.     “Yes, I know of others,” he answered.    “That’s amazing,” I said with a smile.     “It is. Who knew there would still be survivors out in this untamed world.”    “True. There is a safe place called Fortuna. I built it with the other Gods,” I told him.      “It would be amazing to see large groups of people again,” Roman said.     That’s when I noticed something catch his attention from behind me. I turned to look at what he was looking at. I saw the movement too little too late.     Suddenly a heavy net was thrown over me, making me fall to the ground. I managed to look up to find Roman being tackled to the ground hard by other humans. I struggled against the net but couldn’t budge it. I quickly acted and made my wings come back out. I tried to use them to throw the net off of me, but it was too heavy even for my strong wings. I grabbed my sword from my side to try and cut the net. I was soon tackled to the ground and confined even more.     “Stop. What are you doing?” I screamed.     That’s when I felt a sharp pain in my arm under my feathers and a cold liquid being injected into me. I screamed even louder in hopes one of the other Gods was out looking for me. I needed help and I had acted rashly coming out here alone.     I felt my feathers starting to disappear against my will and I knew that these humans had been studying me somehow. They had figured out something about me that I didn’t even know. How could they know things about me?      I thrashed against the person that was holding me down but they wouldn’t budge. They were bigger than me and stronger. I felt my sword being pried from my hand and I fought to get it back. It was too late. It was gone. I needed help and I needed it now.    I took the biggest breath of my life as I felt the last of my feathers retreat leaving me looking like a human. I used this breath to scream for help at the top of my lungs praying that my brother or anyone would hear me.     When I screamed out I felt something in my throat give way and crack. The break in my throat and a searing pain was all that I knew. I took another deep breath to try and scream more but found I now only made a gurgling sound and it hurt terribly. I couldn’t scream anymore. I worried I wouldn’t be able to talk ever again because of what I had just done.     The person that had been holding me down, got up off me and removed the net from me, then pulled me to stand up while holding my arm in a tight ironclad grip. I tried to pull away but it didn’t work. I saw my skin in this man’s hands and remembered that I wasn't wearing much of anything at all. I had no shoes on because I never needed them anymore. The only clothing I wore was a white egyptian style skirt and a white single strap top to cover my breasts. I felt naked right now in this man's grip.     I looked up at the man’s face that had a hold of me. I saw his true nature staring back at me, blood thirsty and murderous. I glimpsed a future of him drenched in blood in the dark. I had no idea what it meant but it troubled me and I wanted no part in it.      “Good job, Travon,” I heard a man’s voice say.     I looked over to see a tall thin man that looked old enough to be my father. He had gray hair and a salt and pepper beard growing. I saw his true nature flash in his eyes. He was going to use me to get to the other Gods. He meant trouble and I needed to get away. I felt the panic rising in me until I saw his future. In viewing his future, I sawI would have to stay with these men. I took a deep breath knowing I needed to endure to the end with these grotesque men.     I opened my mouth to ask him who he was but only a wheezing noise came out and I grabbed my throat as it felt like blood was running down the back of it. The pain was so immense I wanted to cry. I was no longer able to talk.     “How wonderful. You broke yourself. No matter, you will still be of use to us,” the older man said.     I squinted my eyes at him. Like hell I would help him with anything he planned to do.     “Oh, how rude of me. I’m Seth by the way. My little group and I figured out how to suppress your Godly powers Queen Alora. Beetle juice injected into your system will keep you under our control from here on out. I hope you get comfortable not being able to fly. You won't be seeing those wings for a while.”     I looked around to find Roman with a bloody nose, being hauled around by two other men and several others standing around with weapons in their hands. All of them had the same nature and intent. I was in a den of snakes and I needed whatever help I could get to snuff them out.      I had really come to the wrong place at the wrong time.
