Chapter 6

_ The Boss _ Boss? What the f**k is going on? He can't be the boss! Please God! Don't let this asshole be the boss! He throws the receptionist a cold look, not even looking my way for a single second. "Do your damn job, Zoe! I didn't hire you to blabber all day on the phone." "Yes, boss." The receptionist who was rude a few seconds ago seems scared of this tall cold man. He turns to walk away, his hand shoved in the pockets his pants. He didn't even notice me. I don't know if I should feel relieved or insulted. God! Am I that forgettable? I still can't believe he's the freaking boss! God! Not after what happened earlier! There's no way I'll escape being in his bad books. That's if he doesn't fire me once he finds out I'm the mad woman who threw a shoe at his expensive car. I stare at him as he steps into the elevator. Studying him. Scanning him. He's facing down as the doors shut. He's probably deep in thought. Maybe still angry because of what I did earlier. Now I'm hoping he doesn't recognise me. He looks up and our eyes meet. His eyes are dark. Dangerously dark. No, beautifully dark. My heart leaps and I'm forced to look away. Maybe he remembers me now! I turn to the receptionist. She's staring at me with a little sarcastic smirk. "Sorry. You don't stand a chance, Sweets." "Chance? What... I... what do you mean?" I stutter. "I saw the way you were just looking at Mr Grumps there." I quirk an eyebrow. "Mr Grumps?" She giggles. "Yeah. That's what we call our asshole bossy boss. He's always grumpy and in a foul mood. A horrible mood! I heard that his anger issues have no cure. Not even therapy has helped." "And what does that have to do with me standing a chance?" I ask. "I saw that stare you threw at him," she says. "It will get you fired." Ugh! He's not even my type. Wait... I don't even have a type. I have never had a boyfriend, to begin with and he will definitely not be the first one. "I'm Zoe by the way." She shakes my hand. "How can I help you?" "I'm Terra, an intern. This is my first day here." "You're late, Terry." It's Terra. But whatever... "The other interns were here one hour ago, Terry..." Terra!!!! She stands and smiles at me, "Follow me, Terry." I grit my teeth and behave. If all his staff are like this, I totally understand why the boss has anger issues. It's my first day here and I have to behave. Even if that means being called Terry. Maybe... Just maybe they will learn to say Terra after all... We stroll down a busy hallway with a crew of elegant employees walking past us chatting with their colleagues. I stare at some of the workers through the glass-walled offices typing on the keyboards, their eyes stuck on the monitor. "Terry, quick! You are late already!" Zoe snorts. Tired of holding back, I blurt out, "It's Terra!" She shakes her head in confusion. "No. There's no terror here, don't worry." "No. I mean, my name is Terra. Terra!" She rolls her eyes and scoffs, "Nobody cares about your name here, Terry." I grit my teeth and grunt, "But one day you will." "What did you just say?" She stops walking and turns to look at me. "Nothing." I mutter. "Good." She smirks. "Inters are here to be seen. Not to speak." **** We step out of the elevator. I'm still following Zoe behind, looking like a lost sheep. This floor is quieter with fewer workers. I can't see a single person carelessly walking around the hallway. There is completely no noise. The only sound that's here is the tik-tak of Zoe's cheap heels. We pass through several offices. They are all glass-walled and you can clearly see the serious workers. Oh God! Is this where I'll be working for the next three months? Will I also have my own office like these people? Oh lord! This is already exciting. Well, apart from Zoe calling me Terry. This is what I've always wanted. To work in a big company and have my own little office. I'm kinda living my dream. Maybe after school, I can work here. This place is everything! I still can't believe I got this chance. We stop at an office labeled, "Human Resource." OH God! This is now my office. I feel my legs wobbling because of sheer excitement. I studied Business Administration where I specialized in Human Resource. So... To get a splendid office such as this one is everything to me! It's beyond my wildest dreams. Zoe knocks on the door. Why is she knocking? I thought this was supposed to be my office. "Come in!" A deep voice says. Before we enter, Zoe whispers. "Madeline is a f*****g witch!" Madeline? Who is Madeline? And why is Zoe such a gossip? She has a lot of things to say about a lot of people. We enter the office and I'm mesmerized by the beauty and simplicity of the office. It is neat and simple, yet so classy. The wooden bookshelves filled with Business books bring a classic touch to the office. But every other furniture is so modern. From the couch to the rug to the glass-desk. Madeline is standing by the window, her back facing us. The tight maroon dress that shows off her curves. I can't help but feel envious of her long shiny dark hair. I'd kill to know what shampoo she uses. She turns to look at us and lord! Isn't she beautiful? It's crystal clear that the creator took his time with this one. Her eyes are deep and dark. She walks towards her desk and falls on her swivel chair. Her eyes are stuck on me. She's studying me. "She's an intern?" She asks Zoe, still staring at me. It's starting to feel a little uncomfortable. A little creepy. "Yes." "What's her name?" I decide to cut in. "Te-" "Zoe, I asked you a question." Madeline cuts me off. "I'm waiting for an answer." "Terra." Oh, so she knows how to pronounce my name. "Oh, so her mom just popped a baby. Stared at her. And then thought she was too ugly for a cute name so she called her Terror? God! That just made my day!" Zoe and I keep quiet. I'm clenching my fist so hard. And it's so creepy how Madeline is staring at me. Like those evil dark witches in fairytales. "Zoe, you can leave." **** "Take a seat." I do as she says. Madeline says. "No. That's too close, Terra. A little social distance, please. I don't want terror anywhere near me." She bursts into a laugh. She stops laughing and glares at me. "If I laugh. You laugh!" What? "I said laugh!" She barks. I force a laugh. "Good girl. Now, some social distance please." I do as she says but I feel so f*****g stupid. I swear if it was not for the internship... Madeline smirks. "I'm Ms Madeline. I'm the Human Resource Manager in this company. I know you thought you were going to be working as the HR but nobody takes my place. So, here's a list of things you'll be doing for me..." **** The elevator dings. I struggle to enter with the two heavy boxes in my hands. Oh, God! I hope they don't fall... Madeline is going to kill me if they do. Literally. This is the fourth time that I'm carrying the boxes. f**k! This is not what I signed up for but I need this job desperately. I thought I'd be working in HR but I'll be working as a "maid" for the witch with the prettiest face. She said I'll be her "maid" for three months to get training. If I don't adhere to her demands, she won't train me for the three months I'll be here. She's promised to destroy me if I don't do as she says. I put the boxes down and sigh in exhaustion, waiting for the doors to close. Someone steps into the elevator. A man in a suit, wearing some really strong cologne. I'm so exhausted I don't even care to look at him. He seems to be busy on his phone as well. The doors close and I see his face through the mirror. My heart f*****g stops. George!!!! **** Hey guys, please like and follow this book if you enjoy reading it. Have a lovely weekend❤
