The Ranch House
Derek’s P.O.V.
I got out of the SUV and put on my cowboy hat. Hell yeah, a damn cowboy hat! Why? Because tonight was a damn night for celebration like a human, that’s why! Tonight had been the night when everything had come round-circle for me. After living my life in a decent pack -called the Grey pack- with a shitty Alpha for a leader -his name was Trevor, you can forget all about him-, we had finally found ourselves a true leader, in the name of our new Alpha, Archer. And ever since my new Alpha had stepped up to the plate, the pack had turned around for the better, finally. What made tonight even more perfect to me, was that my sister had finally decided to show her face again after finding her mate and going off the radar for a couple of days. Hell, those two still had some issues, but those would be easy to solve, and I knew it. I knew deep down that my sister's mate, Tyler, was an overall nice guy who loved my sister to death. So, when he comes to our pack tomorrow, I'm sure everything for them will turn out just fine. Hell, I even helped the guy with a surprise to get my sister a dozen bouquets of roses -because yes, I am that nice of a guy-
So here I was, living a happy life, in a happy pack with a happy Alpha and a happy family. Which was why, right now, me and a couple of my buddies had crossed our pack borders, and had driven into the city to throw a damn party and get drunk as hell for a change. Because we were celebrating the departure of the lunatic who had run our pack for years, and celebrating the fact that, finally, our pack had found an Alpha worthy of the title. With as the cherry on top for me, my sister had returned home safely and mated. Hence, why wearing a cowboy hat for once, did not seem to bother me at all.
The cowboy hat came as part of the role that I needed to play tonight. The role of being a simple human, and not a werewolf, not the Beta of the Grey pack, which was who I really was and where I truly lived. I was the second in command of our pack. But tonight, I was just some random guy looking for a good time. And in search of live music, good beer, and pretty women, we needed to leave the pack lands and come into the nearest human town. ‘The Ranch house’ was always the place to be, especially on a Friday night like this. A night where drinks would flow, music would play and the women would turn very ‘fuckable’ after a couple of shots. Not that I ever needed to work very hard in order to receive some female attention on my part. I was 35, and over the years, I had grown to learn how to please and receive the attention of any woman whom I would set my eyes on. I knew just the right things to say and do, to make their hearts melt and their panties drop. My picker always did the picking just right, until he had stopped ‘picking’ altogether a couple of months ago.
Yup, my d**k had switched 'off' and had become ‘selective’ all of a sudden. Meaning that for a while now, I hadn’t been able to find any women who did it for me. Nobody spiked my interest, let alone get me hard. And that feeling had only grown stronger, ever since my best friend and Alpha, Archer, had found his true mate in our Luna, Bec. And f**k, I was envious of their relationship. I wanted to have what they had. I wanted to find my mate, my better half, a person whom I could lose myself into, share my life with. Hell, I was freaking 35 years old. I didn’t know if men had a biological clock or anything like that, but if they did, mine was ticking and time was running out as well! I wanted some kids of my own, kids as in, multiple! If I wasn’t going to find my mate any time soon, I would start shooting blanks in a couple of years. s**t, I wanted it all. A nice house with a big backyard, pups running around, and a pretty woman who would wait for me when I came home after a long day of work. But without finding her, all of my other dreams of the future seemed to drift away as well. Ending up with me living inside the damn pack house, a place that I shared with every other single male wolf in the pack. And even though I liked having the biggest room in the house since Archer had given it to me because he wanted to move out of there. I was craving for my own place, just as badly.
“Hey, get your ass out of your head!” Jason, the Gamma of the Grey pack and my best friend, stepped out of the SUV and smacked me against my back, in order to smack me out of my daydream, which, luckily for him, worked.
“Sorry man, I guess I really need that beer.” I sighed, smiling at him. I reminded myself that tonight was a night of celebration and there was no time for me to be moping around like a teenage girl on her period.
“I believe you need to get laid, more.” He grinned widely at me, making me roll my eyes at him.
“Drinks first, women later!” Jeremy yelled, as he closed the backdoor of the truck, his fire-red hair almost reflecting in the moonlight for a second before he also grabbed a cowboy hat and placed it on his head. He gave us all a nod before he started to march towards the entrance of The Ranch House, the beats of the music pulling us inside like a magnet.
It was already past midnight, we had spent the entire day working. Since our former Alpha, Trevor, had basically burned down our new Alpha’s house -which was one of the many reasons why he was kicked out of our pack- and we had tried to save as much from the property as we could, trying to rebuild our Alpha and Luna a new home from the ground up. But now, all of our problems seemed to be in the past, and the future was smiling brightly at us. We walked into the bar, seeing how it was already packed. People were line dancing, drinking, laughing, and talking as we made our way towards the bar, starting the night of lightly with a couple of beers. It didn’t take too long before the first woman popped up into my sight. Chery, as I had gotten to know her, had been a fling, a one-nightery. Sure, she was pretty and very fuckable, but that’s as far as it went for me. Once she opened her mouth and started talking out loud, you got to realize pretty fast that this one had a very tiny brain hidden behind her skull. And even though I wanted to enjoy myself tonight, I wasn’t planning on getting so damn drunk that I would be able to forget about that. But she didn’t seem to mind, as she leaned on the bar next to me, her breasts almost popping out of her pink tank top. She was wearing cowgirl boots and a jeans skirt that could easily be called a bandana as well because I honestly believed that it was about the same size. There was just no way in hell that this woman could sit on a barstool without the entire place seeing her ass hanging out.
“Hiya handsome!” She smiled at me, her fake white teeth shining bright in the bar lights.
“Chery.” I nodded at her, telling her that I had heard her speak, but I wasn’t engaging in a conversation with her, either.
“Are you ready for a good time tonight?” She asked me, batting her eyes as if she was standing in a sandstorm. She was trying to be sexy, and in my eyes, failing miserably at it.
“Nah, I’m good,” I told her, seeing how her mouth dropped open at my response. She was either impressed or shocked by my statement. Whatever it was, I surely didn’t care. So as I took a sip from my beer, I turned around and looked out into the crowds, ignoring Chery and hoping that she would give up quickly and find her a new stud for the evening. I heard some girls yelling and looked their way, seeing that one of them was wearing a fake tiara and looked hella drunk, she was dancing while other girls were cheering her on.
Oh, a bachelorette party
just great…
I turned back around, leaning on the bar as I finished my first beer, eyeing one of the servers and lifting my bottle in the air, telling them I wanted a new one. And I already growled internally, once I heard that the screams and giggles from the females, or the bachelorette party, were coming straight our way.
Great
Just f*****g great…
“Hi!” A very drunk voice called out to us, making me look to my right over my shoulder. I didn’t even bother to turn myself around completely. I knew this game, get the woman who is about to get married drunk, pick out the cute guy in the bar, and ask him something that will make your ears turn red with shame.
Just my luck once again.
“ Hello, ladies!” Jason, standing right next to me, called out to them. And mentally, I was smacking him across the face right that second. The fool had just opened up the conversation.
Great
Just great!
“What’s your name, pretty lady?” Jason called out to the soon-to-be-married girl. And I frowned as I looked at him. Was he really going to hit on an engaged woman tonight? But he just grinned widely, leaning back as he came to stand next to me. The fucker knew I wasn’t feeling this and he was enjoying my torture here, the little s**t! I would kick his ass later tonight. Or tomorrow during training. Whatever the case, revenge would be mine.
“Rachel!” The very drunk and engaged female screamed over the loud country music.
“Hiya Rachel, I am Jason and this is my buddy Derek right here, how can we help you tonight?” Jason asked this Rachel-girl, who had just started to blush so badly, that it was reaching down her whole neck and started to spread over her chest. But she giggled, as one of the other girls whispered something into her ear. By the looks of it, it gave her just the courage that she needed to pull through.
“We are playing these games. Truth or dare.” She told us, and while I wanted to roll my eyes, Jason’s grin only grew wider as he looked at me.
“Would you look at that? Such a fun game!” He told me, which made me frown.
“Let me guess,” Jason told the girl,
“You chose to dare?” He added, as the girl giggled, but nodded her head as she bit her bottom lip. And I groaned, the ‘Oh God’ just not leaving my mouth. So in order to keep the words down, I grabbed my new beer bottle with a passion, taking a big gulp to keep my mouth filled before I would bring out something harsh or painful.
“Yes!” The girl answered Jason, and I saw Jason nod in the corner of my eye as he pressed his lips together into a thin line.
“So, what do you need to do?” Jason asked her, looking over the girl’s shoulder towards her friends, who were now all looking at us as if we were a fine dish that they wanted to devour. Some of them were even looking so hard it made me feel damn right uncomfortable.
“Well, I never rode a cowboy before!” The girl shouted, making my eyebrows rise up a couple of inches as I choked on my beer. While all I could do was turn my head to look at Jason as well. This whole mess was his problem, so he better deal with it. But he looked to be just as surprised as I was at that moment. The little idjit.
