Chapter 11This was not going to go well. Even across the parking lot, Mathias saw the fury sparking in Edmund’s eyes. His shoulders were tight where he gripped the edge of the car door, and the flare of his nostrils told Mathias that even over the scents of the city, Edmund had detected the trail of his and Darby’s flesh and everything they had done. So much for hoping that the stink of the streets would mask it long enough to fade. Then again, Mathias had hoped they wouldn’t run into Edmund for hours yet. Vaguely, he heard Detective Cruz direct a uniformed cop to move him back beyond the tape so that she could finish speaking with Darby.
