Chapter 7Edmund wasn’t normally an early riser, but when he was wakened by the sound of the front door closing, he couldn’t go back to sleep. He rose from bed, walked out to investigate the noise, and found the guest bedroom abandoned, the blankets still mussed from where Mathias had slept. The next ten minutes were spent standing in front of the closed front door, fighting the urge to race after Mathias and drag him back. He was better off, Edmund rationalized. Mat only sought him out because Tatiana had gone turncoat. If the other vampire wanted to put his life in jeopardy by traipsing around Las Vegas alone, that was his business. None of those were the reason Edmund finally turned away from the door. It was remembering the look on Mathias’ face when he’d argued why he shouldn’t stay.
