5. Missed chance

ELI was roaming around the first floor. From the dining area to the kitchen then back to the sala again. He was looking for Danah but he could not find her. He even asked the omegas in the kitchen but they did not know her or saw her either. He slumped on the wooden bench in the sala. It had a rattan net for the butt and back but the from was made of Narra. It was cool to the skin and gave him some relief. He was tired from going back and forth. “There you are. Eli we need you on the beach. The Sultan's boat had arrived.” Leo called on him. ‘Ah, yes he just calls him Leo when he thinks of him but never spoke it. He still has some respect for his Tia Trish after all.’ He thought to himself. The torment he got out of that incident. As if the nightmares were not enough, he had to see their pack doctor once a month for five years. On top of that, his Mama Alex never let him out without any warriors who would guard him. He was practically being monitored the whole time until he shifted. All of this he suffered in silence while Leo got to travel thru those ten years and arrive unscathed. Leo should have been there to see the destruction he brought upon their lives when he traveled back in time. However, he got the golden ticket out and just came back a few months ago when everything seemed to have calmed down. He was the poster boy of the perfect elder brother and caring son. Yet, in just a span of a day, he struggled to be the same after seeing the violence the rebels did to him and Leo. He had anger issues and began to despise the rebels. Just like his Mama Alex, he became merciless when he would stumble upon rebels sneaking into their lands. “Coming down now Tio Leo. Gracias. (Thank you.)” He responded to him. He then mind-linked his Mama Alex as well. That is right Leo was human and did not want to be turned so he remained human and could not talk to him via mind linked. To which he was happy as well. He did not want to let Leo know his thoughts about him. “Mierda, just when I was about to ask Danah for a walk on the beach.” He whispered yelled to himself as he walked towards the pier. The pack was big enough that his Mama Alex had decided to build their personal docking area on the beach. After all, they had grown to 1,500 members already. Supplies from Manila and Catalona, España came more frequently in a month than a few years back. As he walked on the path towards the docks, a couple of pack members rushed back to the packhouse. They all greeted him. “Buenas dias, señorito Eli.” was all he heard from them. He smiled and tried to respond to each of them. The beach was on his line of vision already but the fact still remained. He had to talk to Danah first before he could make a move. Not only was his pack in jeopardy but his Abuelo Vicente’s reputation as well. He thought really hard. If his action would jeopardize the peace talks, Abuelo (Grandfather) Vicente’s government position would be at stake. After all, he was the Gobernadorcillo of La Punta. “Hermano! Wait up! … Wai” He snapped out of his thoughts and looked back to see Pablo rushing to his side. He was out of breath and sweating profusely. Other than that he was paler than usual and his hands were shaking. “What is the rush? I am just strolling here.” he tried to deflect his urgency. His hands were behind his back as he turned a little bit. “Have you gone mad? You should have waited. Remember, I am in charge of their safety as well.” Pablo raised his voice a little bit higher than usual. It was unlike him. What could he say, he was acting weird as well? He tried his best to be alert all the time whenever he is outside his room. However, even when as he did his best, his mind just wandered off to his mate and the impending trouble. All of a sudden he saw her again. It was Danah walking alone towards the pier. “Hi, Danah.” he greeted her. He was smiling ear to ear as his gaze met hers once more. It was enough to brighten up his sullen mood. He did not mind that Pablo was somewhere near to witness his interaction with her. “Hi, señorito Eli.” She meekly responded to him. Her eyes sparkled as she replied to him. He could be lost in her beautiful eyes. He was even curious how she looked behind that satin cloth she wore but that could be for another day. For now, he was glad to be in her presence once more. “Are you going to the pier as well?” he asked her. He wanted to offer her assistance or even better accompany her towards the pier. After all, he was going that way as well. “Sorry, I am not. I have been asked to find the coconut fruit. Would you know where to get one? Angela said it would be near the fields.” Danah said in a soft voice. It felt like she could not lift a finger even if she wanted to be angry at anyone. He was devastated to hear her response. He thought he would be able to talk to her for a bit before the Sultan and his family would set foot on the pack land. Either way, he would help her in any way he could. “Yes, she is correct. Just take this path on the left. As you approach a crossroad you will see a sign that says ‘Kalubihan’ then you are in the correct place. Just tell them Eli sent you there to get whatever you need. They will help you.” He gave her the instruction and he planned to send a mind linked to those in charge in the kalubihan (coconut grove) to look out for Danah. “Thank you, señorito Eli. I should be on my way. Shehzadi must be thirsty from the trip.” She bowed her head a little and turned towards the path he pointed at her. She was brisk walking and was a goner in a few seconds. He sighed and became sullen once more. He was hopeful yet he had a mission to fulfill. “Let’s go, Pablo. We have to be there before Mama Alex does. I am sorry to have made you wait.” He tried his best to cover his emotions from his brother. He did not want to burden him with his situation for now. “Uhuh, just like how you were drooling on Danah eh. Oh, come on Hermano, she is your mate, isn’t she?” Pablo quickly asked him. He wanted to deny but he was not a liar, so instead of answering he just nodded. “Yahoo! Oh, Hermano you are lucky! She is beautiful.” Pablo rejoiced as they walked towards the pier. He even howled along the way. “Shhh, no one knows yet except for you, Mama Alex, and Maria.” He was curious about her looks, but he had not found a chance to see her face up close. “Do you really think she is beautiful?” He looked at his little brother for confirmation. “With a voice as angelic as hers, definitely!” Pablo was so sure of himself. “I thought you were serious. You have not seen her, have you? Oh, moon goddess! Why are you giving me a headache on my mate!?” he complained and they both laughed at his predicament.
