I brought her dinner to our room and placed the plate in her lap, taking a bite and bringing it to her mouth. She turned her face to the side, with tears in her eyes.
I was confused. When she didn't explain anything, I asked her if she was hungry. She still didn't say anything. I was getting frustrated. I grabbed her chin tightly and turned her to face me. When I saw tears in her eyes, I knew that something was wrong. I left the plate in her lap only to go to abbu. I had some questions for him.
He was in his study. I knocked his door, hearing a muffled come in. I faced him only to see his moist face and a sad smile on his face. I cupped his face.
"Abbu, what happened? Why were you crying?"
"Then what should I do? My daughter was dancing in those clothes in front of all those men and did you hear the prices in which she sold herself everyday? Like really? Five hundred rupees? I am just feeling like I failed to be a responsible father, as a brother, as an uncle. I failed as a human being," he said, making me grip his hand and pull him to my chest. He cried more and even I started crying because I knew that somewhere, even I failed as a husband. I couldn't protect my wife. For god's sake, I didn't even check her breathing before burying her. In fact, I was the one to keep her in the coffin and bury her. Then, I realized that I forgot to ask him the question which was revolving in my mind.
"Abbu?"
"Yes?"
"How did you know where Jessie was?"
"That was a guess. Harsh used to keep all the abducted girls in the same bar. I searched for the paper where Kevin had written the name of the bar and when I found it, I knew that I almost found my daughter too. I was really happy when you said that she was alive but when I saw her today, I knew that if she was dead, I would have experienced a more peaceful death. Now, how will I answer my brother who gave me the responsibility to take care of her? How will I answer my Bhabhi (brother's wife)?"
"Abbu, we got her and that is more important. But I think that she was presented to us deliberately because they knew that we will find her. Why did they do that?"
"Cut that crap. First answer my question. What will you do tomorrow? As a Muslim, you can still marry Arzoo. What do you want to do?"
Shit! I forgot about her. Now I know why Gaurav himself presented Jessica to us. It's just because he traded Jessica for her. Did he really love her? Or would he also force her in prostitution? Was it so easy for him to trade two women? Couldn't he respect them? I have to find her or she may suffer a lot. It's funny how I found my Jessie but can't spend my time with her...
