Chapter 2Angels in disguise… Every time Adam read those words on a printed page, or if he heard them in idle conversation, they haunted him, whirling endlessly in his mind. The longer he was here, the more his past seemed to slip slowly away, so far away he wondered if it had somehow been nothing but a dream. And then the words would come whispering again, and he would feel that familiar jolt he couldn’t ignore. From there, his memories grew in size, shape, and reality. Had he once been—no, it was ridiculous—and yet in his mind’s eye he saw himself as the dark and fearful leader of an army of fallen angels that lived in the city of Hades. That would mean that he came from another dimension. A parallel world. The first thing he’d found out about this dimension was that the object of ever
