On one night at this certain street, particularly in a convenience store at around nine in the evening where the customer was very frequent, a terrible scene was about to happen.
There was a group of eight people eyeing this convenience store at the other side of the way, they were under the street lights, huffing and puffing a pack of cigarettes, laughing at each other, but carefully eyeing the certain clerk of the place, waiting for the right timing.
There were exactly three people inside the convenience store—the clerk that had been eyed by the men, the girl peacefully seated by the wooden table inside and eating the cup noodles that the man gave him with a white plastic of medicine beside her, and the man who was walking around the store but merely only because he was also eyeing both the clerk and the men outside.
It went on for about an hour until the man finally decided to get out of the picture and just decided to buy a few cans of spray paint. He couldn't get the look the clerk was giving him, his eyes seemed to be begging, but there were no words coming out of his mouth, only looking at the man on the side and were weary over their presence. He was also looking at the girl seated on the side which would make him deflate.
The man could see how he tapped on the counter each time, indicating how anxious he was. Until he took all the spray paint in the plastic and gave the receipt and change of the man, rather hesitant like he didn't want to give it. He still had this weary look, but the man still chose to not pay attention to it, maybe for now.
As soon as the man went out of the store, the clerk immediately went out of the counter and came to the girl seating nearby, he took her hand and pulled her to the other side. And since the customer earlier was still near, the men outside couldn't move yet.
"Lian, just hold onto me, okay? Don't ever look back," a boy at the age of seventeen years old told her sister of thirteen years old. He was holding her shoulders while they were inside the convenience store, a plastic of medicine on his hand that was on the clueless girl's shoulders.
"Why? Is there something wrong?" she asked as she tried to look outside but then her brother took her cheeks in his hands to make her look at him instead of outside.
"Don't look. Everything will be alright," he looked back and found the eyes of those who he had been running from. He held his sister's hand, "Let's go. Don't ask anything. Go straight to where I will lead you."
"Lance... I'm scared," the girl remarked while Lance, the boy, was pulling her at the backdoor of the convenience store that he was working on.
"Don't be. Bro is here, I'll get you back to your mom safe," he said, opening the lock of the door but then both of them flinched when they heard the loud bang of something falling on the floor that Lance guessed was one of the stalls that were in the grocery which was hit by something hard that once again he guessed was a metal or wooden bat.
"Hurry up," Lance urged, pulling his sister outside of the convenience store.
"Lance! Get out of there and face us, you coward!"
Another stall was hit and went down, Lance couldn't help but clicked his tongue because he knew for sure, his lessor would hunt him down and make him pay for all of the damages this g**g that was chasing after him.
He closed the door, flinching and cursing because of the loud bang it created that echoed in the whole store and made the g**g knew where he was and what he was trying to do. Hurried steps were heard from where they were, and it urged them to continue their run.
"Don't you try to get away from us! We'll kill you, boy! Just like what you have witnessed us do to the other boy last time!"
Lance's mind froze, but his run never stopped, especially that his sister was holding onto him like her life was depending on her. They heard the metal door continuously banged and the shout of the g**g members became louder.
"They're just at the back of this store. Go to the narrow way to the side! Hurry before they could even get out of our grasp!"
The way they were taking was a dark alleyway, the pavement was wet because of the rain earlier and there was still drizzle until now. Their heavy pants and their careful steps were the only ones to be heard, but they were still not obvious, only if they would really listen well that they would hear them.
"Why do they want to kill you, Lance? What are they talking about? What did you get yourself into this time?" the girl asked continuously, bombarding him with the questions that he surely had the answers to. He knew too well why they were chasing him and why do they want to get him.
"Shh," he silenced her instead, looking back at her as he looked past her and watched as the shadows of the guys running to where they were had come to view, "Now is not the time, Lian. Just keep quiet and hide."
They found the pile of empty boxes nearby next to a huge garbage can, this place was the one that he always visited whenever he would throw the store's garbage or would stock the empty boxes, so these boxes were basically coming from them.
This place was also the one that brought him here, in this exact situation, in this very same circumstance as what he witnessed last week. Apparently, these men chasing him were part of a g**g, a notorious g**g known for its bad reputation which clearly had the huge banner following them which said to stay away from them because they were even scarier than monsters, or they could be leveled with those
However, even with that watchword following them, they wouldn't go to the point of killing someone else, they were still scared of the police. However, just last week, they broke that scare and had overstepped their line. And it just happened that he was there when he witnessed their dirty doings and now, they were already chasing after him for the past days.
"Get behind those. If you can, get inside the boxes, go, go!" he told her, pushing her urgently and hurriedly but carefully not letting the boxes fall out of places.
"How about you?"
Lance looked at the side upon hearing their steps get closer. He made her sister jumped into the box and motioned her to stay silent. His sister was already big enough to understand things, and he guessed, she already had an idea about what was happening, she just needs confirmation about it, and no matter how much he didn't want to scare her, the situation he was in was indeed needed to be scared about,
"You are the most important. Just tell the police that the Wee g**g is the one behind this if something happens to me, also they were also the one behind the murder last week. Don't move an inch, okay, Lian? Even if you hear me screaming, do not."
"Lance, we can't lose you," his sister said, holding his hand though she was already inside the huge box and only needed to be closed and she was good to go. He also bore holes using the stick that he picked on the side, boring holes around the box to give her air to breathe.
He stood up, ready to close the box, "I can't bear losing you more than myself, Lian. Live for mom, okay? Go hide."
He closed the box hurriedly, piling it up with the other empty boxes, and tried running as soon as he finished. He ran as fast as he could, as far as he could from where he hid his sister, he could see the boys running after him upon seeing him, and soon enough, he was cornered in this one narrow alley near the convenience store, but not too far away from his sister as he was instantly grabbed by the collar and was thrown on the wall which caused him to groan in pain.
"Now, now, kid. We've chased you for a week, don't you think it's time to surrender?" the guy whom he found the one behind the main reason the man last week died and seemed to be not the leader but the most boastful one in the group in front of him said.
"What do you need from me? I'm not telling the police," he told them, twisting and grunting, kneeling in front of them as one guy kicked his stomach.
"Well, we are known to not trust anyone but ourselves so we don't trust you enough, kid, all we wanted to do is to kill you like that foolish man," he replied, showing his g*n with a silencer that he used with the man previously who was even begging for him not to but he still killed him, shooting him in the head multiple times.
If he didn't just throw up with how he saw the brutal death of the man that he wasn't used to seeing, then he might not be in here, he might not be found, he might not be risking his life right now. All curse to the uniform and the ID name that slipped onto his uniform.
"No, don't touch me!"
His ears perked as his eyes widened upon hearing and seeing his sister being held and dragged by two men toward them. He met her desperate and apologetic eyes, and he couldn't help but feel helpless now in this situation. He stood up abruptly, while the men were engrossed with the new arrival of his sister, he snatched the g*n and disassembled it quickly like he had been so professional with guns.
The men were stunned by that, and the kick from Lance only woke them up. Lance was a thin man, but he wasn't that weak as he looked, he had always trained himself with a sack of sand and using it as a punching bag every morning. It was because of poverty that he barely ate in a day, plus his mother being sick which is where all of his earning went to.
His punches were enough to blow off a few guys, but with a lot of men coming to him, and his sister being held, he couldn't help but cry in frustration. He managed to get his sister out of their grasp.
"Run!" he shouted, holding the man on his foot when he tried running after his sister.
The girl ran while shouting and begging for help, crying in worry. Lance had also been the main focus of their t*****e, pushing the girl for another day to kill.
However, when Lance was already filled with blood and full of kicks and bruises, couldn't mind anything now, the men started dissipating, then he saw two pairs of shiny shoes with the weighing scale as the design in front of him.
"We are from the Themis Agency, a certain old man reported this to us, and with one wrong move, you're all dead."
