Outside the Temple, the fugitives found themselves in a back alley. Laura knew the path from here, as she led her group through the twisting paths between the buildings. She picked her route carefully, so that at no time did they ever have to cross a major street where they might be spotted by ordinary citizens.
Wayne spotted the danger with his extended senses while it was still a good distance away. “Laura!” he whispered. “One of the angels is coming this way.”
Laura stopped and looked up into the sky. When she saw no flying menace, she looked suspiciously at Wayne. “How do you know?”
“I can sense these things. Trust me. Get everyone under cover.”
Once again the woman hesitated. She could see her command being usurped by this stranger, and she was not at all happy about taking orders
