Chapter 5: A Glimpse of Them

1635 Words
Anonymous POV I know I shouldn’t have saved her. It can cause harm to our survival. It may reveal my secrets. This is against the rules of nature. But I just couldn’t help. I don’t know why! But I have never felt that way towards anyone before. I’m a demon of darkness. And she is like a light in my world. Beautiful and innocent. First, when she steps on the soil of Camelot, a different thirst wakes up my inner demon. It forces me to leave the mansion and drags me to the forest. I stand in the heart of the Camelot woods in silence, waiting for her to arrive, just the way a predator does. Hell, I am the predator. A merciless creature who can only kill and destroy. I close my eyes as the wind carries her sweet smell to my nostril. I inhale deeply. Ah, lavender. Her smell is like a drug to me. It is driving me insane. I move slowly to track her. And there she is. So beautiful. Her hair is tied up in a bun. A huge backpack is hanging on her shoulder and her hand is attached to her luggage. I want to run to her and help her with carrying all these. I don’t want her to struggle. I want to take away all her burdens. It takes all my strength to restrain myself. Why am I feeling this way? Suddenly she stops and turns back. Her eyes fall on me directly. I know she won’t be able to see me in dark and that is for the best. Still, a part of me wishes for the opposite. Her cheeks and nose are red, and her lips shiver a little. Is she cold? Her tanned skin is yelling that she is foreign to these lands. Her eyes linger a little more on me as if she can see through me. They are not scared, rather disappointed. Then she grabs her bag again and starts walking. Her scent is intoxicating. Something about her is pulling me towards her, no matter how much I resist. I want to touch her. I want to kiss those lips. I want to whisper my stories in her ears. I close my eyes to regain my composure. But I can’t. Something inside me is blinding all my senses. I gradually give in. I can’t hold back anymore. I need her touch. I use my speed and brush her back once, lightly, and then I stop away from her. She screams out of fear. Have I scared her? I feel a sharp pain in my heart. I want to pull her into a hug and comfort her. I know that is not the right thing to do, but I couldn’t stand back. A different sensation shakes up my body. I lost control and keep going back to her, using my inhuman speed, just to touch her face. It feels like heaven. The fear in her eyes disappears. She stops as if she can also feel my presence, and my touch, as if she can hear my whispers. I guide her to the heart of these forests, near the lake Camelot. Humans are abandoned here. This is one of the very few places where we can be ourselves. I know it’s forbidden to bring a human into this circle, but I can’t help it. I make her stand near the ridge where she can see the first ray of sunlight.  Slowly the darkness disappears. A pure smile forms on her lips. I can hardly take my eyes away from her. I fight with my inner demon and leave the forest. But that is only for a few hours. I come back again to see her. She is living in the dorm. I chuckle inwardly as I walk through her, pushing her harshly. My intention is to know her name. All the documents she is holding float in the air before falling to the ground. Mianette! What a beautiful name. A grin curves on my face. Her yelling stops my legs. I peek at her once. But exposing me in front of her will do no good. I disappear in the woods and wait silently, though they are not out of my eyesight. I can hear every single thing they are talking about. Thanks to my supernatural hearing. She is annoyed. Her cheeks are burning red. I’m guessing she has already made a friend. I go back in assurance. That other girl named Sam seems to be trustworthy. She will not harm my Mianette. Why am I feeling this way? My Mianette! I’m roaming around in this world for more than a century and have never wanted someone like this. I try to keep her out of my head and hence put my mind to arranging our new home. I spend hours doing stupid things just to stay away from her. But a sudden uneasiness fills my frozen heart, waking up my inner devil once again. Something is definitely wrong. Something bad going to happen. But what? I close my eyes. My family is in the house. They are out of trouble. I concentrate harder. A soft smell of lavender brushes my nose. I open my eyes instantly. Mianette! Is something wrong with her? I leave the house in a blink and follow my instinct. My limbs are shivering from an unknown fear. I have never felt this way. I am a creature from the dark. I have never learned to fear anything. My instincts drag me into the forest near a lake. My eyes become wide open as I see Mianette plummets down. My mind goes blank for a moment. I use my abilities and grab her waist. She is scared. I can smell that. She leans over my torso. We land safely on the ground. I hold her tightly. For a moment I thought I was going to lose her forever. Her scent is calming down my nerves. The tingling sensation is lingering all over my skin. She slowly opens her hazel eyes. They are beautiful. Her eyes are locked with mine. Her hand touches my cheek. So soft and delicate and covered with blood. No, this is not right. Human blood! It’s hard to resist. She loses her consciousness slowly. I can already hear her friends talking. They will definitely come down for her. I put her down near the trail so that they can find her easily. I wait in a distance just to keep an eye on her. What was she doing in the woods after sunset? This forest is not safe. Her smell is so different from all other humans I’ve ever come across. Her soft curls are touching her face. The footsteps on the hiking trail become clear. They are close. Soon enough, that girl named Sam rushes down with another girl. Their eyes fall on Mianette instantly. I feel assured. I see them carrying her up. The sound of another car makes me curious. I jump on a tree to see what is happening. A middle-aged man places my Mianette inside the car and then they drive away. They seem to be trustworthy. She is safe. I return home. My job is done. “Where have you been?” A low feminine voice stops my legs as I hit the stairs. “Nowhere,” I reply. She already knows where I was. “You shouldn’t have done that! You shouldn’t have saved her like that,” she continues. “Else she would have died,” I keep my composure as I speak. “Then let her die. She is just a mortal. You should never interfere with nature,” she scolds me. I know we are supposed to stay away from human. But I just can’t. Something about her keeps dragging me. Her soft eyes, her warm smile are all in my mind. A hand on my shoulder brings me back to my senses, “You know who we are. We are one of the deadliest creatures of this creation still only a few of us are alive. You know what will happen if we don’t abide by the rules.” Yes, we are dark and manipulative. We can do whatever we want. At least many like us thought so, which led to their own destruction. The humans are fragile but not fools. They learnt their ways with us. Our ancestors made a few rules for the sake of our survival, and one of them is not to interfere with the course of nature. “I know, what is important for our survival. You don’t have to be worried.” A cold voice leaves my mouth. “You will stay away from her, do you understand? She has an effect on your emotions, and we can’t allow that,” she speaks in a warning tone. I ignore her and walk upstairs. But with enormous speed, she beats me and stops me again. “We came back to start a new life here and you’re not going to ruin it. You’ll do as I say or else, I’ll take my measures against her.” She threatens me. I look into her icy blue eyes as I speak in confidence, “are you threatening me?” “I’m just talking to you, but your father won’t. Better you hide your paths before he gets involved.” My so called mother leaves me behind, completing her last words.
