I dreamt of a man, tall with black hair and golden eyes. He ran from me, keeping just inside the edge of shadows where I dared not tread. Finally I called his name, “Gunnr!” but he gave me a sad look, and turned and disappeared. When I woke I stared at the ceiling of the hut for as long as the warriors let me lie. Last night had been the turning point. I had submitted. I now wore their torc. The beast within me, whatever she was, wanted nothing more than to entice, and be dominated by her mates.
