Chapter 12 - Trust

1110 Words
It turned out that when Andrew saw the man trying to choke Lucy, he secretly used the Usain Bolt card. He felt a strange sensation in his legs and could already feel that they were stronger. They almost vibrated with power.   While Lucy's attacker was talking, Andrew leaped in the air and delivered a kick to the man's ribs with his powerful legs. The impact sent the man crashing into the wall and knocked him unconscious immediately.   After all, Usain Bolt had powerful legs, and Andrew would be silly if he didn't use them to his advantage.   “Are you okay?” Andrew asked Lucy as he rushed over to her.   Lucy gasped at her neck as she took in deep gulps of air. It took her a few minutes for the world to stop spinning and for her to be able to breathe normally again. Having a near-death experience was the most terrifying thing she had ever experienced.   She looked up at Andrew and saw his caring and concerned expression. She thought this new intern would hurt her like so many others had done, but he saved her instead. Instead of speaking, she nodded her head.   Lucy knew that her attacker was not an easy man to take down. He was a professional hitman and was knocked out so easily only because he was distracted. He also didn't anticipate such a thin and ordinary-looking man to be that strong.   “Boy, you are asking to die!”   With a hand placed on his side, the hitman regained consciousness and got up off the ground. He stared daggers at Andrew and spat on the floor.   “Isn't it you who is asking to die?” Andrew fired back, undaunted. “You tried to kill someone in broad daylight. Aren't you worried about getting arrested?”   Andrew wanted to somehow scare the hitman off with the threat of the cops. After all, he used the Usain Bolt card. He was able to make a sneak attack against the man without him knowing it was coming. Since the hitman knew what he was capable of, it wouldn't be easy for Andrew to succeed again.   Andrew was also angry with the system. Since it usually gave him something valuable every time, he wondered why it didn't give him another Bruce Lee card? With the Usain Bolt card, did the system intend for Andrew to challenge the hitman to a race?   “You trying to threaten me with the cops? Well, let's see if you can survive until they get here!” The hitman threatened as he started to stalk towards Andrew.   Andrew secretly gulped, his body trembling a little. Though he has fought before, the man in front of him was a professional hitman. He would surely lose his life if he wasn't careful enough.   Obviously, if Andrew escaped with the assistance of Usain Bolt card now, the killer would never catch up with him. However, if he ran away, Lucy would be tortured and killed. After all, she wouldn't have been in this mess if it hadn't been for him. Andrew couldn't, in good consciousness, let a woman die on his watch.   Lucy quietly watched the exchange, her heart hammering in her chest. She was scared but also felt the warmth from being protected by Andrew. To be protected by someone was something she hadn't felt in a long time. To survive, she disguised herself as a mental patient and constantly worried that a hitman would find her one day.    If it hadn't been for Andrew today, she would have continued to live her dreary existence. She might have eventually turned into an actual mental patient. But, his actions melted some of the ice that had frozen over her heart. Andrew's tall and robust back comforted Lucy, and she was unaware that she would think about this boy often in the future.   “Run, Andrew,” Lucy whispered urgently from behind. “You would be faster than he is.”   “As a true man, I can never abandon a woman in danger. Besides, I work here now, and I am responsible for your safety. Right now, whoever wants to kill you has to go through me first,” Andrew responded righteously. Lucy's eyes were bloodshot, and her psychological line of defense completely vanished. The last time she had been protected like this was when her mother was alive.   The hitman sneered as he listened to their hushed conversation. “I never expected that you two would like each other. Well, that's fine. You both can go on a date in hell!”   Andrew knew that the killer would charge at them, and he quickly turned around to sweep Lucy up in his arms. He then bolted for the staircase as he clutched her close to his chest.   “Andrew, I'll just slow you down!” Lucy cried out as she grabbed onto his shirt.   “I'm not leaving you,” Andrew huffed in reply. Though he wasn't usually this strong, the adrenaline allowed him to carry Lucy more easily. He ascended the steps two at a time up to the roof.   The hitman was stunned because he didn't expect that Andrew would react that fast. He also didn't know how the fool could go up the stairs that fast while carrying another person. But it didn't matter if Andrew could run because he was headed to the roof where he had no escape. With that in mind, the man smiled wickedly as he gave chase.   “Andrew,” Lucy breathed. “We will be trapped on the roof!”   “I have a plan,” Andrew said confidently as he opened the door at the top of the stairs. He didn't slow his momentum as he rushed to the furthest edge of the roof.   “We can't jump! We will die!” Lucy protested, her face ghastly pale. She thought that the hitman was the only danger she faced, but now she found herself up on a high roof with nowhere to go. But, Andrew appeared to be calm and in control, and it comforted her greatly.   “Do you trust me?” Andrew asked suddenly.   “What?”   “Do you trust me?”   Lucy's eyes widened. She didn't know what Andrew was planning, but he had a determined look in his eyes. But after everything she had gone through, her answer was easy. “I do,” she whispered, her face flushing.   Andrew knew that the system wouldn't give him useless things, so what other occasion would the climbing rope be used for but climb down from the roof.
