Chapter 7

"Vasy?!" I groan under my breath and open the top drawer of my desk, the messy scatters of paper off the top and shutting it quickly. Abel hates it when I make my workstation "a tornado zone." Speaking of, I pops his head around the corner of my office and scans my space. Not pristine, but acceptable. "I'm about to give you a proposal and I need you to decline and negotiate for a different offer." I scrunch my face and shut my laptop with confusion. "What?" He doesn't answer, dissapearing for a split second before returning with a stunning woman. She wears a very tight blue dress and his choppy blonde hair that is curled in layers. "Vasilisa, this is Teresa. She's the representative for sun company. You know, the commercial script you wrote two days ago?" I nod in rememberance and smile brightly at the lady who shakes my hand before sitting in one of the chairs on the other side of my desk. "It's a pleasure. My boss- well, everyone really was blown away by the commerical you wrote. So much in fact, that I'm here with a business offer for you." I listen with interest, figuring this is the proposal Abel was talking about. "My boss wants you to write all of the commercials, design the billboards, and make the advertisements for sun company over the next eight years." That doesn't sound so bad. "Exclusively." There it is. Abel sends me a pleading glance, hoping not to loose my presence on his team. "It's a great offer, bu-" "It is. It pays well too. 60,000 a year." My eyes widen and I sit stunned. That's over ten thousand of what I make now. Realistically, I should take it. Luckily, I don't need that extra money bad enough to leave this job. "I could certainly do all that and put sun company at the top of my client priority list, but I'm afraid I can't agree to be exclusive." Teresa looks dissapointed, but clears her throat and pulls a card out of her purse quickly. "The terms are not negotiable. Call this direct line to my boss if you change your mind." I nod and thank her as she walks out, Abel mouthing a 'thank you' and a thumbs up as he follows after her. What would he do without me? ••• "I got a business proposal today." I look stunned over at my boyfriend and squint in doubt. Did we both? "What for? Monochero Inc. or from your agent?" Christian puts the plate of pizza down on the counter and slides into the stool next to me. "My agent. It's a movie deal." I smile and nod, biting into the pepperoni goodness. "Don't speak with your mouth full," he says holding a finger up right as I open my mouth. Rolling my eyes, I finish before continuing. "What's it about?" "A woman thought to be a sociopath acts as a chameleon in society. She makes men fall in love with her, feigns feelings, and then leaves to a new city without a trace. One of those men hires a private investigator from the FBI, hopefully me, to find her. Though when I do, she refuses to go back and the man who fell in love with her will try to win her over whislt I try to figure out what's wrong with her and connect her path of destruction from all the men before. Eventually, we find out she's not a sociopath when she falls in love with the private investigator." I wiggle my eyebrows as I finish my last bite of pizza. "Saucy." He nods his head in agreement, but doesn't have the usual excitement when going out for a part. "Why the long face?" Christian turns on his stool and rubs my leg with a sigh. "We live in new York and even though they hope to film not far from here, the audition is in Los Angeles. I would have to go away for two days... And leave tonight." My face drops and I turn my gaze to the floor. "Oh." I won't pretend I'm not overly attached to Christian, but two days? What will I do without him? I don't have any good friends. Only aquaintances and there's no way Christian will let me stay with Abel while he's gone. Thinking of the business card in my pocket, I figure Abel could do me a favor for staying loyal. "Can I use some vacation days to come with you?" Christian's face lights up. "Can you?" I nod and he laughs with joy before pulling me into a tight hug. "This will be great, baby. Let's pack."
