“So, what did you think?” Frank asked as we were on our way to the mystery location he had chosen for dinner. “It wasn’t what I thought it would be.” That was the truth. The church, Nuestra Señora, was not what I expected at all. Father Ortiz gave me the history of the church and explained their mission. The area is mostly Catholic, but some found it to be a bad fit for them. Those were the people who believed in a woman’s right to choose, that LGBT people weren’t sinners, and other beliefs that went against traditional church teachings. Yet, they still had a strong belief in God and needed a home. That’s where Nuestra Señora came in.
