Chapter 14 - Max's curiosity

*Him* Ayden rolled his shoulders. It had been a week, his wounds were all but healed however, Ayden still felt the phantom pains of the whipping he received. He sulked on his cloud watching the ant like humans below him. He was bored so he started pulling the edges of the cloud apart, balling them up and throwing then back into the atmosphere, watching them disapate as there wasn't enough water in them to sustain Thier shape. He had wet hands so he wiped them on his cloak. Finally, a raven flew to him sqwarking and he snatched his parchment to begin his work.  This past week he has been scouting other reapers and 'borrowing' targets off them, so his count would go down faster, but as he looked at his numbers, he still had five hundred thousand to go. He sighed, he went to his first target. It was another hospital job. He floated down and landed on his feet in front of the ambulance. He cloaked himself and walked around to the back. He quickly jumped out of the way as an ambulance officer through the door open. Doctors came flying out to help retrieve the patient. Ayden 'tut tut'ed' "Such a shame." He mumbled as he swung his scythe and hooked the patient in the chest as the ambulance officers were still doing CPR.  He pulled the patient's soul out and it floated along behind him. The cardiac monitors that were hooked up to the patient were beeping to announce that the patient had died. The doctors were all somber and the ambulance officer hopped of the patient and the gurney and collapsed against the ambulance door, exhausted from the CPR. Ayden looked at his parchment to check where he was to send the soul.  He rolled his eyes. "Argh another goody two shoes" he opened a portal to heaven and sent the soul on its way. He opened his parchment again and scribbled 'delivered' next to the souls name.  His next soul would be struck by lightning. Ayden sometimes was amused by his tasks cause of deaths and this was one. The poor victim must be very unlucky, however when Ayden looked at the destination for collection he rolled his eyes. "Figures. If your dumb enough to be playing golf in wet weather you kinda ask for trouble." He rolled his parchment up and followed along with the dark clouds. He cloaked himself and waited patiently, as the man sunk his ball on the seventeenth hole.  As the guy approached the Tee off zone for the eighteenth hole, Ayden followed along behind.  The guy pushed his red wooden Tee into the ground and neatly balanced his ball. He fished out his putter and lined himself up with the ball. He swung backwards, and as he was in motion to hit the ball the sky lit up with brilliance and for a few seconds Ayden was blinded but then when he blinked away the light he seen the ball sail smoothly towards the green before it pitched downwards to spin around the flag and flop into the hole. Ayden whistled. "Man that would sick. The dude died sinking a hole in one..."  He fished the still sizzling soul out of the body and opened a porthole yet again to heaven. And then marked the soul as 'delivered'. He was about to go to his next target, when Maximillian floated down and landed a few feet from him. He coxked his head to one side to size Ayden up. Adyen flipped him the bird before hissing. "What do you want max? I'm busy." Maximillian chuckled. "I heard from a little black birdie that you've been taking extra work...." He cooed in his honey voice. That only made Ayden more impatient to get away from him. He wipped his scythe to his other hand and again was about to take off when Maximillian jumped in his way.  "I'll give you my parchment for my whole shift...in return for a favour of course...." Ayden stopped curious as to what Max could possibly want in return, a vein in his forehead was pulsing and Ayden clenched both his teeth and his fists. "What do you want in return?" He hissed again through his teeth. Maximillian clapped his hands in delight.  "You can have my parchment...in return...I want to meet this little lady of yours..." Ayden felt a strong compulsion to punch Maximillian in his pretty face.  Max was twirling his scythe and skipping around Ayden.  "Have a quick think about it, but don't take too long...my first soul will be needing reaping very shortly..." Ayden was frustrated. He needed the extra souls to shorten his time in limbo as a Reaper and now Max, of all people was wanting to cash in on his desperation. "Fine. But you'll have to follow me everywhere until you get your wish. I haven't seen in 'her' in a while..." Maximillian clapped in delight. "Oh that's fine. Here." He threw his parchment into the air with a dramatic flair. Adyen reaches for it and immediately opened it.  He scanned it with his eyes and he glared at max.  "Let's go. Try to keep up with me, I'll not have you keeping me from my tasks." He flew up into the sky and zoomed off in the direction of Max's first target. Clenching and unclenching his jaw. He knew he had now made a deal with the devil but in order to shorten his limbo he had no choice. He didn't know when he would see Elise next after her big mistake last time they crossed paths, he figured her bosses wouldn't let her off lightly. He then began to wonder what punishment she would've received for that. He rolled his eyes at the thought of being stuck with Max perminantly if she was released from duty, he had no way of seeing her and getting rid of the thorn in his side.  However, he remembered that even if she was released from duty, he could still be able to find her as her living aura was blindingly bright. As they flew, Ayden turned to Maximillian. "What do you want with Elise anyway?" Adyen was disgusted as max cooed. "Aww is that her name? It's beautiful as I am sure she is." Ayden didn't know weather to laugh at that. "You'll be surprised. She's clumsy, ditzy and quite frankly I think she's a little slow in the head." Ayden pointed to his own head as he said that. But Maximillian only chuckled. "Oh Ayden...Ayden...you don't know you said that with so much affection did you? Now that's made me even more curious as to what this lovely maiden looks like, that the upright Mr Ayden would take a punishment for....."
