Dainy

752 Words
“When were you going to tell me?” I spin around at the sound of Liam's voice. My math book in one hand and the other on my locker. After math class Liam and I agreed to meet in the hall to go to Eco together. He was smiling then, now his green eyes that would one day light up the biggest crowd that America has ever seen as he performs Hypnotic in Madison Square along-side Jace Stone are glowering at me. He’s furious, Oops. “Yesterday night it was so late and....” My words rush out, “honestly Lee? Everything happened so fast I didn't even think about it.” He pulls the side strap of his bag up his shoulder. His jaw is tight. Face red. Oh god, he's pissed, “I asked you yesterday what's between you and Orniel. You brushed the WHOLE thing off. I gotta hear from SABASTIAN who wasn't even in the country until a few days ago that my best friend is Orniel's new lay. What the f**k Dainy?” He hits my locker shut and I jump. My hand falls to my side as my book slips out of my fingers, hitting the floor. Everyone in the hallway stops to stare. I should say something. Anything. But all I'm thinking is that Sabastian is back. I didn't know he’ll be returning this year. Then again, I hadn't spoken to him since last year when he visited Liston Hills. We had already broken up by then and I had never told anyone why, neither has he. Reagan and the others think he left because of the custody battle, but him and I both know the truth. Let's hope our secret can stay that, a secret, for both our sakes. Liam is still staring at me, expectant, but what do I say to him, there's nothing to say. My face probably says it all because he bends down and picks up my book. His hand wraps around my shoulder. The crowd scatters and next he's walking me to next period, “I hope you know what you doing Dainy.” “Me too.” Mr Cobelin walks in to Eco class five minutes late. His text books hit the desk getting everyone's attention. I'm sitting in my spot, two rows from the back, Liam is in his, next to me on the left. “You wanna come over after school,” I keep my voice low. He answers, “Yeah,” but I notice for the second time now that his eyes are fixated on something. I punch him lightly on the arm and see what he’s looking at. There's a tall girl standing in the front next to Mr Cobelin. She’s cute with dark hair styled in a pixie cut, tight calf denims and a blue t-shirt that has Versace written in gold glitter across her chest. I can't really get a good look at her face with the angle her head is tilted in but I can tell she's attractive, “Who’s the new girl?” “Elizabeth Trent, but people call her Lizzy.” “What is she doing here? She looks a bit old to be in our grade.” “Yeah, she's eighteen, her mother’s the new accountant for Bray Arch International, guess who her mother's shacking with.” I groan, feeling a sudden headache comin’ on, “Don't tell me it's Dillon's dad, please, not another one. I'm not sitting through another dinner with Mr Lane and one of his bimbos.” Liam gives me his smug smile and I just know I'm not going to like what he’s about to reveal, “Delroy.” I hit my head on the desk, once, twice. My ponytail all of a sudden too tight. I just want to hide, I need to disappear. “Why couldn't he just stay in England.” Liam is finding this amusing, no doubt. But he doesn't know my reasons for wanting Sabastian gone. He thinks I just don't want to face my ex. Please, if only it was that simple. “Stop whining Dainy, it's not the end of the world, for all we know Sabastian could be shacking up with his hot and not so little stepsister.” My opinion to that is on the tip of my tongue when my phone buzzes in my lap. I check the message and my grin splits, I'm coming over tonight , leave the window open.
