The day of the annual ball quickly came and the inmates she-wolves in my pack were filled with much excitement as they gushed about finding their mates.
The Annual ball was where most unmated wolves found their mates so all wolves within mating age needed to attend the ball.
Amelia and her friends made sure I knew that they were intent on finding their mates this year meanwhile, I was tasked with making pastries for the ball like I did every year.
I am always being kept busy during the annual ball to prevent me from attending. The only time I got to see what the annual ball looked like was when I went to drop off more pastries at the party when the ones in the hall finished. Not that I mind though, I hate crowds. I rather just stay indoors and read a book or paint.
Amelia and her friends were currently sprawled on the couch in the sitting room gushing about finding their mates and their dresses.
"Oh Amelia, I hope to find my mate this year. My sister found hers last year. She was mated to the beta of the Blue Moon Pack," Lisa said.
Lisa was one of Amelia's friends who came by the house most time.
Just like Amelia, she loved to remind me of the fact that I don't have a wolf so I wasn't going to have a mate.
"My sister said the blue moon pack has the strongest wolves in the wolf community and she has maids to serve her at the pack house as the Beta's mate," she said proudly.
"Yes, yes, we all know that your sister is mated to a beta. Can we get ready for the ball now? We both know Amelia spends a lot of time on her makeup and I don't want my mate to leave the ball before I'm able to find him," Emma said.
"Shut up Emma. How will my mate see me if I'm not attractive enough to make his head turn?" Amelia asked.
I walked in carrying a pan of freshly baked cupcakes. Placing them on the dining table to cool off, the girls looked in my direction.
"Look who's here, the pack freak. I wonder how you got to be a member of our pack when you don't even have a wolf. Surely the moon goddess considered you a waste of time and decided not to waste her gifts on a freak like you," sneered Amelia.
I kept quiet like I always do. Replying to her will only make it worse and it's not like she was lying. Everything she said was true. The moon goddess didn't find me worthy enough of her gifts and that was my fault.
"Can't you speak?" asked Lisa.
"She's always quiet. I wonder if she's dumb" Emma replied.
"Oh, I know how to make her talk," Amelia said.
Walking towards me, she picked up one of the cupcakes I had laid out on the table and examined it before smashing it on my face.
"Perhaps this will make you sweet to look at"
Lisa and Emma began to giggle.
"Nice pun Amelia" Lisa said while scrolling through her phone.
I turned to leave to wash off the icing from my face but a hand quickly pulled me back.
“I’m not done with you yet,” said Amelia.
“Don’t walk away from me until I say so”
I quickly muttered an apology and she eyed me from head to toe before asking me to leave.
I quietly walked up to my room to get cleaned up. It was of no use standing up to Amelia and her friends. It has always been like this between us; them making fun of me and me being quiet because I didn’t want to get punished.
I splashed some water on my face to get the icing off and began to wash my face with soap.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I wondered why they hated me so much. I try my best to stay out of their way and respect them.
“Come help me with my makeup Freak”
I quickly broke out of my thoughts and went to do Amelia’s makeup. I am pretty good with art so doing makeup came naturally to me. I was never allowed to have makeup on so I just used my makeup skills on Amelia instead.
“I want a blue eyeshadow to match my dress and this makeup better be your best yet, got it?”
“Of course” I replied.
I quickly started doing her makeup. I applied the foundation and concealer to cover any blemishes. Not like Amelia needed it, she was beautiful unlike me.
I made sure to apply her blue eyeshadow and eyeliner as she had earlier requested, finishing up with bright red lipstick and baby pink blush to her cheeks.
“Hmm, the freak is pretty good at this,” said Lisa as she watched me finish up the makeup on Amelia.
“Let me see,” said Amelia.
I handed them a hand mirror and from her reaction, I could tell she was somewhat pleased with my work.
“Not bad Freak. I can’t wait to see the look on my mate’s face when he sees me. I hope he’s an alpha or beta at most”
“After Sean abandoned you last year, I thought you would be over Alphas but I was wrong,” replied Emma.
“He didn’t abandon me. I left him”
“Oh really? So why did you keep crying for days when he found his mate?” asked an amused Emma.
“Shut up. You don't know what you're talking about,” replied Amelia.
Amelia has always wanted to be mated to an Alpha. She tried dating the son of our Alpha, Sean but he found his mate last year so the relationship couldn’t continue and Amelia was devastated and sulked for days.
“Okay, me next,” said Lisa.
