Judas woke with a start and hit the stop button on his annoying alarm clock before it hit him with another barrage of eardrum-shattering beeps. It was a small victory. The force of the blow made the clock rattle on the top of the bedside table, and he watched, smugly, as it then fell over, flat on its face. Judas sat up and stretched his arms upwards and yawned like an overfed lion. Last night’s sleep had been the most relaxing and untroubled since his last night on the train, and he felt rejuvenated and ready to go. He got up, got dressed, savaged half a loaf of bread with the toaster and a pot of Marmite, drank two cups of strong coffee and then he got going. He was getting back into the routine again.
