Chapter 1

—MICHELE— Is she f*****g serious? After everything I have done for her, the lives that have been lost to protect her! This is how she shows her gratitude? I couldn’t help but see red by her letter. I know she was doing it to keep everyone else from dying but that wasn’t her choice to make! She is mine, not his!  I picked up the lamp and launched it at the wall, breaking it into pieces and letting out a loud smash. My body slumped as I sat down on the bed and I laid my head in my hands. I can’t believe she’s gone.  “What’s going on?!” Nico exclaimed as he burst into the room like he did when I had my hands around Amelia’s throat. I didn’t raise my head from my hands, I didn’t even answer; I sat incredibly still and stared at my feet.  “Mick?!” He tried to gain my attention.  However a white piece of card distracted me as it caught my eye, half hidden under the bed. I scrunched my face up and reached down to retrieve it. My eyes widened and I gritted my teeth. It was Ezio’s business card with a telephone number and an email address on it. Nico made his way over to me and I glanced up at him with pure evil in my eyes. My hand crunched the card into a ball, my fury starting to spill over.  “What is it?” He asked. I stood up abruptly and slapped the ball of card into his hand.  “I’ll f*****g kill him!” I exploded and charged out of the door.  Nico rushed after me as I made my way to one of the doors next to my office. Inside was a rack of assault rifles, shot guns, hand guns and snipers. Nico’s tone turned panicked as he saw me tuck a hand gun into my belt and reach for one of the assault rifles.  “Mick, stop! You need to take a second to breathe!” He yelled but I ignored him as I loaded it with a mag of bullets. I clicked the mag in place and grunted.  “Michele, just stop!” He shouted and placed his hand to my chest. I looked at him impatiently and narrowed my eyes.  “What?!” I growled.  “You are doing exactly what dad did when he got himself killed. You think Amelia wants to witness you’re death? And for what?! A moment of rage!” He lectured.  “Ezio isn’t going to go through all of this trouble, throw away every chance he has to kill her if he wanted her dead. He isn’t planning on killing her Mick but he won’t hesitate to put a bullet in your head”. I glanced down at the floor, panting from the anger that pulsed through me and I dropped the gun on the floor.  “So what the f**k am I suppose to do then?!” I snapped. Nico placed his hand on my shoulder gently and gave me a soft squeeze.  “We are going to be smart about this, get all the intel we can on his whereabouts and his lifestyle. When we know everything we need to about him, then we devise a plan... then we strike” he explained cautiously.  I sighed dramatically and rubbed my temple. He was right, it would be reckless for me to go in guns blazing. We had to do this carefully. I took a minute to gather my thoughts. “I need you to call Elena and arrange a private meeting, I also want some of the guys to do a thorough search for Ezio’s place but make sure they do it discreetly; Ezio can’t know about us looking for him. I want him to think I don’t give a s**t about her” I scowled with disgust and irritation as I mentioned his name.  I needed to get my anger out somehow. I can lose control sometimes when I’m this angry and I can end up hurting someone who I care about. Flash backs of Amelia’s scared expression as I started to gain control of my body after our fight was traumatising. I didn’t want to make anyone I care about feel like that again.  —AMELIA— I followed the directions that Ezio had given me over the phone. The roads were pitch black with the occasional spotlight coming from the lamp posts. I was beginning to think I was lost and that I wasn’t going to find my way to Ezio’s place. If I don’t make it there then he will think I’m just playing with him which will make him even more angry. I don’t even want to think about the things he could do to Renzo if I didn’t turn up.  I took my phone out and tried to make sense of the map he had sent me. I looked around at the dead open road and huffed. I really didn’t want to call him again but I had no idea where I was. “My darling Amelia, I was beginning to wonder where you were” he answered as if he could hear my thoughts.  “I’m on the long road leading up to the old motel, I think I might be lost” I said, ignoring his flirtatious tone.  “One of my guys will be there shortly to pick you up” he stated. “I’ll see you very soon” he added and hung up.  It was freezing outside and I was beginning to shiver. I swayed from side to side trying to keep warm. Tucking my hands in the front pocket of my hoodie, I kept checking in both directions for a car. I was in two minds whether I wanted them to hurry up or not. I was so cold but I knew as soon as that car door shuts, I’m a prisoner again but to someone far worse than Michele. Suddenly, a beam of light came round the corner and a car came into view. It was a dark blue Mercedes followed by a black SUV. They screeched to a holt in front of me and three men got out, armed and ready for a trap.  “Take your hands out of your pockets slowly!” one of the guys demanded.  His dark brown eyes were almost black which nearly matched his short hair. His muscular build was enough to intimidate a bear he was so big. He had on a black shirt and a brown leather jacket with a pair of black trousers and shoes. I did as he asked and held my hands up in surrender.  “I’m unarmed!” I exclaimed in fear.  The other two held their guns firmly, pointing straight at me. The man came towards me and grabbed my forearm, twisting me round to face away from him. He lifted my arms and started patting my sides. I don’t think he realised the force he used as he squeezed along my body tightly, causing me to jolt in pain. He found my phone but nothing else and took it out of my pocket.  “You won’t be needing this anymore” he grunted and smashed it against the pavement.  I turned to him and flashed him an evil look, he just smiled and continued to search me, even though he had already been very thorough. His hand slid under my jumper and tucked into the bottom of my top. I jumped and tried to push him away when I felt his cold hands on my skin, but he didn’t even flinch. He stroked his fingers across my stomach and sighed in my ear.  “At least I now see what all of the fuss is about” he growled against my neck.  “Get the f**k off of me!” I yelled and to my surprise he let go.  He chuckled at me and then gripped my hair tightly. I squealed from the force he used to throw me into the back of the SUV, slamming the door shut behind me. Sitting up slowly, I looked at my broken phone on the pavement when the car pulled away, as if it was my last chance to be reminded of Michele.
