Early morning, I was wide awake and sitting up in my bed. I stretched my arms out to the side and let out a wide yawn. It took me a little while to realise where I was because of the dream I had last night. Michele found a way to get me out of this place and take me back to his. Everyone was so happy to see me and Michele was more loving than ever. It felt so real that I thought I had woken up in my bed back at his, but it was only a fantasy.
I huffed in disappointment and scooted myself out of the bed. I was wearing a pair of red tartan pj bottoms with a grey strappy top. The window that looked out onto the garden had a deep ledge, long enough for me to sit on. As I pulled my knees up to my chest, I looked out at the hills and admired the low sun rising from above.
Twiddling my necklace, I thought about the picture that Ezio showed me from last night. Was Michele really pretending this whole time? The thought of his deceit burned in my chest. He’s the first guy that has made me fall so quickly and deeply and it might have just been a game to him. I have held this necklace every night since he gave me it and I think of him. I think about his soft lips against mine, his warm embrace and the cocky smirk he gives me when he knows he’s being irresistible. I didn’t want to think about him anymore.
I reached up and unclasped the hook at the back, letting the necklace fall from my neck. I glanced down at it in the palm of my hand and tried to fight back the tears. As one fell onto my lap, I slammed the necklace onto the side and turned away from it. I’m done with believing his lies, I’m done caring about him and I’m not going to allow myself to be so weak anymore. Although Michele seems like he isn’t interested in me, the people in that house are my family and I’m going to do everything I can to get back there.
“Miss Amelia?” Samuel interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see him standing in the archway of my room.
“I’ve come to unlock the door for you” he announced confidently. I smiled at him and lowered my gaze.
“Thank you Samuel”.
He grinned at me and then left, leaving the door wide open. I got off from the ledge and walked over to the chest of draws that were filled last night with new clothes. I threw on a yellow blouse with a pair of light blue jeans and white trainers and then pulled the brush through my knotted hair, flicking it to one side. Time to explore.
I walked out to the main foyer and headed down the second hallway on the left. I could smell chlorine which excited me. I loved swimming, it makes me feel so free and the water comforts me. I opened the door to see a large indoor pool set in the middle of the room.
On the outside were cream fabric seats and comfy lounge chairs. Huge pots filled with green ferns decorated the corners and dim lights were imbedded into the floor. I inhaled the sweet smell of the water and bent down to stroke the surface with my finger tips. It was heated which made it even more appealing. I closed my eyes to take in the warmth of the water on my hand, when the memory of Michele and I sharing an intimate moment in the pool invaded my thoughts. I opened my eyes and stood up.
Come on Amelia, get a grip! I headed towards the door and exited the room, attempting to leave Michele’s memories behind. The other doors led to separate rooms; one with a massage bed and shelves filled with oils and candles, one that was a sauna and one was a bathroom. I headed back out to the main foyer and was met by Samuel once again. He smiled at me warmly and stopped to see if I was okay.
“I was looking for the kitchen” I said.
“The kitchen is just down here I will show you” he offered and led the way to the door beside the front.
It opened into a large red and white room. The tiles were were sparkling under the large light on the ceiling and the island was by the right wall. The counters ran along the opposite side into an L shape which matched the colour scheme of the island. There was a black stove and fridge set next to each other and the ceiling was high up. Ezio must be very rich to afford all of this.
“Help yourself to whatever you want Miss Amelia” he kindly said before heading towards the door. I opened the fridge and took out a carton of milk. After searching the cupboards for a glass, I poured the milk in.
It was nice to be admiring a different room to my bedroom. I was fed up of looking at those four walls all the time. I leant against the island and sipped at my milk. I need to think of a way to escape this place. Ezio doesn’t want me snooping and I don’t want him thinking I’m already planning on escaping. Maybe I could use that picture of Michele to my advantage, make him believe that I was so hurt by it that I have decided to forget about him all together.
“What the f**k are you doing here?” A female voice echoed against the tiles.
I turned my head and saw Camille standing there in a grey suit jacket and a matching pencil skirt. She had a white blouse on underneath and grey court shoes. Her blonde hair was tucked tightly into a neat bun on the top of her head.
“Camille, I’m...”
“I know who you are, why are you here?!” She snapped. I narrowed my gaze at her and pushed away from the counter.
“What do you mean? I thought you were in on this as well” I assumed, feeling confused by her aggressive reaction.
“In on what?! I’ve just come back from a business trip to find some little w***e making herself at home!” She yelled.
“Your husband didn’t exactly give me a choice!” I snapped back at her. I saw the anger bubbling up inside of her as she tensed her jaw at me. She took in a deep breath and shouted loudly.
“Ezio, porta qui il tuo fottuto culo!” (Ezio, get your arse in here now!). Soon after, Ezio entered the room with a confused look on his face. When he saw his wife standing there staring at me, his body language changed.
“Bellissima (beautiful) what are you doing home?” He asked hesitantly.
I was a little taken back by how submissive he was towards his wife. He always came across as the man of the house, the one in charge. Right now he looks like a little boy getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
“We managed to close the deal a lot quicker than we expected so I thought I would fly home early to surprise you” she explained after swivelling her body to face Ezio. She turned back to me and snarled.
“But it looks like the only one who is surprised is me”.
“We talked about this bellissima, don’t pretend like you didn’t know this was going to happen” he cowered.
“We also talked about you keeping me informed!” She growled at him. It was so weird to see Ezio submit so willingly, especially to a woman considering how me treated me in the study last night.
“I’m sorry, I should have told you about her arrival”. I felt incredibly uncomfortable standing there whilst they had their little argument.
“Why don’t you go upstairs and freshen up after your long flight. I’ll be up in a minute and we can discuss things then” he smiled at her. She huffed and then stormed out of the room. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“What was that all about?” I sniggered.
I put my glass into the sink and went to walk out of the room, which was in Ezio’s direction. As I was about to pass him, he gripped my hair in his fingers and tugged me into his body.
“Ow, what the f**k Ezio?!” I yelled but he gripped me tighter.
“Something funny?” He grunted in my ear. I groaned in pain and scrunched my face up.
“No!”
“I didn’t f*****g think so! This is your only warning, take my f*****g rules seriously otherwise life here is going be very unpleasant for you” he cautioned and pushed me out of the door, causing me to stumble to the ground. I looked back at him in shock but he walked past me like I was a piece of dirt and headed upstairs.
