Chapter Twelve

1650 Words
Dimitri     The grand ballroom at the Plaza was set out exactly how I had asked for it. By my side Sopha paused in the doorway and it was only when I tucked her hand into the crook of my arm and lead her forward that her feet moved. “Dimitri.” She whispered a I lead her inside with a flourish. “Is this for us?” “For you, my darling.” I would have to be careful how I spoke to her now. I could see her brother rise from seat at one of the many round tables. His friend and Don Luca standing up with him. Both began to clap.  A slow steady beat that before long everyone had joined in with,  Pausing long enough to press my lips to her hair, I was rewarded by a smile so dazzling that it took my breath away. She was happy. Not just a little bit happy but overwhelmingly so. Doing this for her had made her not just happy but ecstatic. I hadn’t done it for her, I had arranged it all for her brothers benefit, or more specifically his dons. But if it made her happy as well then so be it. If anyone deserved the fairy tale it was her. “Thank you, Dimitri.” She whispered. I knew the moment she caught sight of her brother his wife. Her grip on my arm loosened as she tried to rush over to them.  Flattening my hand over hers I gave her fingers a quick squeeze. It wasn’t only her family and friends who were watching. Mine were as well. And I wanted to give them a good show. “Remember whose wife you are Sophia.” I hissed out the corner of my mouth. Her shoulders slumped slightly at my tone, but her smile didn’t falter.  She was learning. I gave her a rare smile. “Remember how good it feels when you please me.” I whispered. Her cheeks flamed scarlet, anyone who could see us would know that I had said something that was making her blush. They would expect something rude, and in a way, it was but it was in no way as rude as the things I was going to do with her soft body tonight. What had happened in the Limo, when I had licked her until she exploded against my tongue was just the prelude. By the end of the night, I would have her eating out of the palm of my hand, begging to be a good girl just so I would please her again. There would be punishment as well. She would learn to enjoy both. “Brother,” I greeted Stefano fondly, my voice abnormally warm as approached. I greeted him a typical Italian way. Or at least I hoped it was. Planting two loud kisses in each of his cheeks with my hands firmly on his shoulders. “Its good to see you again.” “Dimitri.” His voice was cold as he stepped back almost instantly and turned to his sister. “Sophia.” This time there was real warmth in his voice.  I caught her glance and gave an almost non-existent nod of my head. She was asking my permission to greet her brother. Sophia was picking this up quick. Seeing my nod, she rushed into her brothers’ arms. “I’ve missed you.” She crushed her cheek against his tuxedo jacket. And he smoothed her hair back with his big hands.  They were fond of each other I realised. Their easy affection for each other was totally alien to me. And I watched them as they started chatting animatedly. I watched then like I would bugs through a glass before I squashed them “You look beautiful Sophia.” Stefano held her out at arm’s length. “Tell me are you happy?” I held my breath. If she answered no now, if she told them everything I had done and said before I made her mine then any truce, I had with the Moretti’s would be over.  Any chance I had of running my own family would be over. And everything would be for nothing. “I’m happy.” She finally said. Stefano studied her as I greeted his wife. But I made sure I kept one eye on my own wife. “You decided against the red dress?” Lily asked with a frown. Silently I cursed myself. I should have known Sophia would call on her sister-in-law.   “Oh, that’s my fault.” Curling one arm back around Sophia’s waist I hugged her into my hip. “I saw one look of her in it and well…” Throwing back my head I laughed. “If it was your Lily, I apologise and I will buy you another.” Stefano scowled at my words. His face murderous. I hid my smile by kissing her hair again. These were the men, the whole of New York feared? It was almost comical. “If you will excuse us, Mr and Mrs Romano. I must introduce my bride to the rest of the room.” They nodded their heads politely, not that I was really asking for their permission.                                                       ***   We made the rounds slower than I had expected. Everyone wanted to talk to Sophia, to congratulate us in their thick Russian accents.  I knew why they wanted to talk to her. They wanted to see the American girl who had finally captured my heart. Poor fools still thought I had one of those. “You look tired my love.” Blinking she gazed up at me. Her eyes glazed. “A little.” She finally admitted when I showed no emotion on my face for her to know what to say. “Then let us go and sit with your dear family for a little while. We have spent enough time with mine.” I chuckled and she shot me a puzzled look. She wasn’t used to me laughing and smiling, it made her nervous and she had every right to be nervous.   “They have given me a headache.” My arm about her shoulders I lead the way to the Moretti/ Romano table.  my head ducked down to hers. “You’ve been so well behaved tonight, Sophia, I think another reward is in order.” Not giving her a chance to say anything I pulled her chair out for her with a flourish before taking my own next to her. The moment I did, my hand was on her thigh. Dragging the silky material up so I could touch her bare skin. “Act normal Sophia, don’t make a sound.” Her eyes were wild as she turned to face me. She searched my face for a quick second and then nodded. “I’ll try.” She whispered silently. My grin grew. Turning to Luca Moretti I started up a conversation. A boring one, where I barely listened to his mundane answers and the entire time, I traced the wet slit of my wife’s p***y was the tip of my finger. I wanted to drag this out, see how far she could go without making a sound. Before her flushed cheeks and ragged breathing gave her away to the rest of the table and I would have to stop. Already Lily, her brother’s wife was staring at her with a frown. Almost like she knew what was going on under the pristine white tablecloth. She was close already. Her hips wiggling the tiniest bit. And I knew she would go off like a rocket the moment I pushed one of my fingers inside of her. Leaning over, I nipped at her shoulder. “Soon baby, soon but not yet.” It happened so suddenly that first I didn’t know what the hell was happening. One minute I ha my hand between my wife’s thighs and the next I was thrown clear across the room. I didn’t hear a bang or see a flash of light. Blearily I climber to my knees my eyes searching the ballroom, dust and plaster filled the air. Making it hard to see. A bomb, someone had just tried to kill us and at my wedding reception no less. Pain blossomed in my kegs the moment I realised I was injured but I forced myself up to my feet. Screams sounded in my ears, but I ignored them as I scanned the ruins of The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom. I didn’t care about any of them. I only cared about one person. Sophia. She lay in a crumpled heap. her body twisted into a foetal position.  Lily was holding her bleeding head in her lap. And the blood. There was so much of it covering her. Whether hers or someone else’s I didn’t know. Stefano was scrambling over to them both on his hands and knees. His face a white sheet and his gun already in his hand. I had said no weapons tonight, but I couldn’t bring myself to be mad at him. Someone had just tried to kill us. “Sophia.” Seeing him move towards my bride finally made me move. And the closer I got the worst her injuries looked.  “Give her to me.” Almost shouting I fell to my knees. Gathering Sophia’s limp body into my arms. “Sophia.” I patted her bloody cheek gently before Stefano yanked my arm away. “What the hell are you doing, she’s injured. Stop slapping her around.” It was only then that I saw the full extent of her injuries. Swearing in Russian I felt something open up in the pit of my stomach, like the world had suddenly been wept from under my feet. Had I caused this? Was I yet again about to watch my wife die?
