Calypso’s PoV
After the funeral of one of my girls, I decided to come home to Gisele’s abode and try to avoid dealing with stressful situations such as answering questions from our clients about the sudden death.
Most clients know what happened, but I rather wait for Gisele’s investigation. In my opinion, it doesn’t give me an explanation if I have to listen to every single word from those people who only think about themselves.
“Mistress, I’ve prepared your bed and dinner. Do you want to have dinner now, or should we wait for lady Gisele to come home?” I smiled.
“I don’t think Gisele will be home tonight. She has something important to do. Will you be staying, or will you leave?” The servants look at each other before smiling at me.
“We will be staying, mistress. It wouldn’t be a great idea to leave you all alone.” I smiled. I’m glad they decided to stay with me but-
“Mistress, I will get the door.” Huh? I didn’t even hear anyone knocking on the door, though. It didn’t take long for the maid to come back and inform me of the house owner.
Hold on- I thought Gisele would buy this house with the smart she received from the empress. Why would the homeowner come here? Don’t tell me she rented this place!
“Let him inside.” The maid nodded before she came back with a middle-aged man.
“Is there anything I can do for you, sir?” I smiled while I asked the maid to prepare some tea for our guest.
“Please, there’s no need for you to prepare anything for me. I am here because the neighbors are worried about someone trying to enter the dame’s home. May I ask who you might be to the dame?” I see. This man probably doesn’t know who I am because his gaze towards me seems different than others.
“I am the dame’s wife.” The servants were surprised when I said that. The homeowner seems surprised.
“Is that so? I expect the dame to swing that way but with someone as beautiful as you- that’s shocking even for me.” The homeowner laughed it off.
“It seems you knew Gisele for quite some time. Is there anything that I need to know about the dame?” I smiled. The homeowner begins to tell me that he is an old friend of Mr. Liam, the man who found Gisele all alone in the forest.
“The dame brought a few girls before, but none of them seems to stay with her long enough. That made Mr. Liam worry. But now that she’s married a decent woman, I’m sure Mr. Liam is happy.” The homeowner is too innocent. I shouldn’t be lying to him.
“How many girls did he introduce to you?” The homeowner chuckled.
“Quite a lot. But none could compare with the wife. Please don’t worry- you’re one of the best candidates the dame had brought home.” Somehow I feel relieved to hear that. Wait- why would I feel relieved? It’s not like we’re together.
“Are you worried about the dame going to war?” I’m not even worried about her going to war. But I am worried if she did something stupid like going into Zora’s Castle and almost killing every guard inside.
“I’m not. I know Gisele will be able to protect herself. I’m more worried about the enemy because they have to face her in a fight.” The homeowner and I laughed.
“That is true. Gisele doesn’t like to be defeated in a fight.” I watched as the homeowner drank his tea.
“Thank you for the tea. I have never tasted something so delicious before. I will inform the neighbors that you’re not a trespasser. I’m sorry for taking your time.” I smiled at the homeowner before asking the maid to lead him outside.
“It seems lady Gisele is quite famous around here.” I agree—everyone respected Gisele for coming back and was chosen to become the commander for the imperial knights. I thought everyone would give her a look at what Gisele did to the nobles she suspected as the one who killed Mr. Liam.
“When I first heard what that woman did to those people in the palace, I admit that I have a bad impression of her. But now that we know each other more now, I begin to understand why she did all of that. Gisele was trying to find the killer.
“Mistress, are you sure about sleeping on an uncomfortable bed tonight? I can always call for the head butler to bring your mattress to this place from the mansion if you like.” I shake my head no.
“There’s no need for that. I’ll sleep on whatever as long as I get to have some rest. Now, I think I’m going to have that dinner. Do you mind serving me?” The servants nodded before they went to the kitchen and came back with several plates of food.
“Would you like for me to play some music, mistress?” I hummed. That would be nice, but I don’t think the neighbors will appreciate that.
“It’s alright. Why don’t you guys take a seat and join me instead.” I smiled at the servants. At first, they seem to contemplate whether to take the offer or not, but I implore that they should.
“So, you’ve been learning from a musician how to play the violin?” I asked one of the youngest servants I had hired.
“Yes! Thank you for paying for my classes, mistress.“ I smiled. As long as they do things legally and it doesn’t go against one's morality, I don’t see why not. Music has been a way for people to communicate. It doesn’t matter what genre; as long as the listener understands what sort of emotion the player which to convey, that should be enough for one to enjoy such a good piece of music.
“I’m home!” I heard a familiar voice coming through the door.
“Oh- everyone is having dinner already?“ eh- Gisele?
“Did you finish work early?” Gisele nodded as she took her seat.
“You’ll enjoy what I manage to find out, Calypso. Also, something weird happened to me just now. The homeowner suddenly congratulates me for no reason. It was weird and funny at the same time.” Gisele chuckled.
