Tony POV
2 years later...
"So? How is your body?" Austin asks.
Austin is my buddy. No... he's not a ghost, but he can see ghosts. It's just really weird.
A year ago, when we first met, I thought that he was just like me because some ghost looked like a normal being walking around and everything, but suddenly he talked to some girl who convinced me that he was alive and, after that, almost every day I go to where he is and sometimes he'll go to the hospital to visit me.
I had already told him everything that happened to me and he just listened without saying anything. He understands and he says that seeing a ghost is more difficult because some ghosts are harassing him, so he often pretends not to see them.
I can't even imagine myself in his position, because if I could see ghosts before this happened I would go nuts!
"They're still waiting patiently for me. Thank you, bro, thank you for passing the message to them. I thought they'd give up on me." I said as I glanced at him and stared back at the wide track field in front of us.
"Nah, it was nothing, your Mom is really strong and she doesn't want to give up on you." He says. I nodded in agreement.
It's been 2 years since that day and I already accepted everything, but I'm still waiting for that girl who will bring me back to life.
"So how's school?" I suddenly asked after a minute of silence.
"Still the same," he says nonchalantly.
"And this girl you're talking about?" I smirked as I glanced at him. He always told me a story about this girl from his class that he liked. I told him to make friends with her, though I hadn't seen her yet.
He suddenly chuckled and glanced at me, but then he shook his head.
"She's my friend and that's more than enough," he says, looking far away.
"You're a lame man, how is that enough for you? All you need to do is confess your feelings and then boom! You're lucky that she's just beside you...I don't even know how to find her." I said the last word, smiling bitterly.
"That's what you think..but I don't think that she sees me more than a friend," he says like it's nothing, but when I see his face I could see sadness in him. I don't know, but maybe being like this has benefits, because I can see their feelings just by looking at them.
"Hang on there buddy, you'll meet her soon. Fate always has its perfect timing." he continued, and then he was about to pat my back but, stopped midway and instead patted his back and we both laughed.
I fell silent and so was he. There are so many things on my mind right now. What if I don't find her? Am I going to die for real? What will happen to my body?
"Don't think too much," he said. I hesitated but ended up nodding my head.
"I need to go now, I don't want to be late" he continued.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then. I'm planning to go to see your school tomorrow." I said without looking at him.
"You mean your old school? Sure, I'll see you there then. See you around" he finally says. I nodded and he nodded back, then started to walk back to where his car was parked.
I still stay there. Being a ghost is hard, I don't even need to eat or sleep. It's tiring.
Sometimes..or most of the time, I think about just dying to end this loneliness and just getting up to the light, but seeing my family's situation right now, I need to be stronger and be patient to find her..the girl who the guardian told me about.
I need to find her soon.
========================
"Where's that friend of yours? I need his help!" Alfonzo is a hundred-something-year-old ghost but he looks like in his mid-30s. I think he dies at that age.
I was standing in front of the big lake near the park, he came closer to me and looked at me hopefully.
He's been bugging me since I met Austin. He says that Austin can help him pass an important message to his family so that he can finally climb up to the light.
"Sorry Sir, but I don't think Austin could help you. He said that he'll think about it first. Some ghost around here has already started to bug him and harass him." I explained.
"But he's my only hope to finally be at peace. Please..please help me." he pleaded. I sighed in defeat, he looked really tired and just wanted to rest.
So, without thinking, I nodded my head and looked at him.
"I'll try to convince him, but if he doesn't want to, please don't bother him..and please tell that to others. That poor kid has a life, you know that. Don't make it hard on him" I said, and he promptly nodded, looking at me with hopeful eyes.
"Thank you! Don't worry, I'll tell them" he says, and with his last goodbye, he disappears.
This kind of stuff has been..kind of..sort of..normal to me. Before, I always freaked out and to avoid them I stayed in the hospital beside my body, but as time passed by I got used to them.
I have already met nice ghosts and some bad ones. All of them have different stories. Most of them don't want to climb up because they still have important things to do about their loved ones and some are those who really can't accept the fact that they're gone, so they sometimes rebel and do bad things to their lives, like playing tricks on them. However, I heard from a ghost that there's a grim reaper who's hunting those ghosts. Creepy..and scary.
I closed my eyes and thought of my other favorite place in this city where I could only think and see how beautiful this city was.
In just a split second, I opened my eyes and I'm now sitting on the edge of a cliff where I can see the whole city. This is the mountain where my Dad and brother used to hike but we never went this far because it's really dangerous, but not now for me.
The city lights that twinkle under the moon, the beeping horns of the cars down there, and other sounds that the city produced, plus the windy vibe up here with the trees.
This is so peaceful..but lonely at the same time.
I looked up at the sky and looked at the moon. There aren't so many stars because of the lights from the city, but I could still see some. I stared at the sky in awe. Before, I couldn't appreciate the things around me, but because of my situation, now I notice them. This whole thing that happened to me has a good side but…
"I hope I can see you soon. I miss my family. I hope she'll come soon…" I whispered as I stared at the stars above me.
I wish and hope so...
