My stomach plunged with dread as I heard what Juan had done. I could hardly process what I was hearing; he had betrayed Vladimir with a ruthlessness I would not have thought him capable of. My blood boiled as I watched Juan, now standing in Vladimir's place and using his newfound power without a single thought of loyalty or friendship.
I fixed my gaze on him, my voice dripping with accusation. "So you just took his place?"
Juan's face contorted with defiance. "It was my duty. It is the custom of the wolves, and as Vladimir's Beta, it was my obligation to step up."
My response was cold and biting. "Obligation? You call that your obligation? To just forget about your friend and Alpha and take his place? That's not loyalty. That's betrayal."
"It isn't like that," Juan said
