I was still furious as I slammed my office doors shut. "F*cking Morgan!" I shouted to Asher and threw one of my golden chairs at the stone wall, causing several engravings on the chair to shatter.
'If he convinces Landon to try his luck, he'll be more of a problem than ever.' Asher pointed out.
'I should just kill him.' I said angrily and sat down at my desk where several papers sat waiting for my approval. I shoved them aside and leaned back with my head facing up to the ceiling.
My office used to be a place of comfort, but right now I hated these four walls. Like the rest of the castle, my office had stone flooring and walls, but the roof was wooden, and the beams cut across the ceiling were engraved to look like vines and flowers.
The room was split into two huge sections, one where my desk and several shelves sat in front of a small fireplace and an assortment of chairs and plants, while the other was where a large sofa sat in front of an even bigger fireplace, both lit and warming the rooms. There were doors that led to a bathroom and a second set of doors leading to a balcony.
Several paintings hung on the walls and some of my favorite statues were placed around both rooms to decorate the space.
'We can't kill him without cause.' Asher reminded me. There were rules to my world even for the King. 'We need his forces to help keep the dragons at bay.'
'Unless we kill him and his mother's line.' I suggested, 'His forces would then revert to me, until I declare a new Lord and Lady to their region.'
'He hasn't even met our mate.' Asher pointed out as he curled up in my mind and rested his head on his front paws, 'He mightn't even want her, let's just see how things pan out, if he oversteps then we have true cause to kill him and the elders can't complain.'
'The elders,' I sighed angrily, 'I'm sick of listening to them and all of their bullsh*t.'
'Me to.' Asher agreed as there was a knock on the door. 'But we have to keep the peace until we break this curse, King or not, because of our i***t father, we have to pretend like we're listening to them.'
The door opened slightly, but no one came in. "Your majesty," My guard Demetri's voice called out, "The Keeper is here. He says you requested to see him."
"Let him in." I said, and sat up straight as a plump man walked in.
The keeper had long black hair pulled up into a loose ponytail at the back of his head. He was a slim man that always wore long maroon robes and black slip on shoes. I don't remember ever seeing him shift. He preferred to stay in his human form, and stuck in his office with his thousands of scrolls and books.
"Your majesty." He bowed his head before coming over to me.
"Danny, thank you for coming." I said, and lent forward on my arms, I noticed Danny looking at the chair on the ground, but he didn't comment. "I'm sure word has reached you about my mate."
"It has your majesty," He said happily, "I offer my congratulations. Finding one's mate is an amazing moment, even without the added situation of the curse. When I met my Susan, it was the best moment of my life."
"It was actually more of a surprise." I admitted, "Ally isn't like other Lycans. She is half witch. I don't even know if she will shift when she turns 18. Have you ever heard of someone being half-and-half?"
"No, never." Danny frowned, as he thought it over, "It is also very unusual for a King or any Alpha to be mates with someone who isn't a Lycan. Your mate must be very special. Do you know how powerful she is? Maybe we could test her."
"I can't tell how powerful she is, something is blocking me from reading her." I answered. Kings have always been able to sense the powers of those around them. We also had the ability to take someone"s power. It came in very handy during a fight.
"That could be an indicator in itself." Danny said thoughtfully, "She might be too powerful to be read. I can look through my scrolls and see if I can gather a little more information for you. What is the Luna's last name? If her witch line was powerful, then her family would have been documented."
"She doesn't have one." I told him, "She had amnesia when they found her as a child."
"Interesting," He said, deep in thought, "For a witch to get amnesia there must have been a very serious traumatic event, their power usually protects them from those kinds of injuries."
"Is there anyway to undo the amnesia?"
"I think that's a better question for your sister, your majesty."
"Right." I agreed, "Well, look through the histories and get back to me quickly."
"Yes, sir." Danny stood, and bowed before leaving my office.
'Well that was a waste of time.' Asher growled, 'I thought he'd have some answers for us. What's the point of being the keeper of our histories if he doesn't know the histories.'
'Calm down, Ash.' I rolled my eyes, 'We'll get our answers. We just need to be patient.'
'I want to go see mate.' Asher said, restlessly, 'We should be spending time with her.'
‘She needs space.' I said sadly, but I felt the same way. I wanted to be by her side. 'We need to take things slowly. Let's just get some work done.'
Asher growled, 'Do it yourself.' He ordered and closed his eyes, 'I want my mate, not work!'
I rolled my eyes and pulled some paper towards me, and began reading. A few hours later, there was another knock on my door, this time is was Amery, and he came with a young girl.
"This is Anita, your majesty." He announced her, and she bowed her head. "She is one of the ladies maid. I thought she'd be best for the Luna."
"I wanted a Lycan maid for her."
"I thought you might." Amery said quickly, "But I think the Luna would be more comfortable with a witch. She's not used to our kind, I think she'd feel safer with a witch."
I looked Anita over, and reached out my hand. "Give me her papers."
Amery handed me over the women"s papers, and I read about her experience and family. She was a witch from a non-powerful family, and she had several children. I could use that information to my advantage.
I looked up at Anita, "You love your children, I assume?"
"Yes, your majesty."
"If you harm my mate in anyway, I will kill your children in front of you, is that understood?"
Anita paled, and nodded, "I would never harm her, I swear, your majesty."
"You may begin on a trial basis." I told her and placed her papers on the table. "Your family will be moved to the middle ring, so you are closer to the Luna. Amery makes sure Anita and her family are set up properly and have everything they will need. Is that alright with you, Anita?"
"Yes, your majesty. That is amazing." She told me quickly, "We are currently living in a house with several other witch families. It will be nice to have a home of our own."
"I'm glad to help." I told her and stood up, "Amery go get things ready for Anita. I will introduce her to my mate."
"Yes, your majesty." He said and left us alone.
"Come with me, Anita." I said and exited the room.
Anita remained silent, as we walked towards my wing. She looked around the castle excitedly but didn't say anything.
"This is Anita." I informed the guards, "She will be the Luna's ladies maid. She is to have access to the wing."
"Yes, sir." They both nodded and opened the doors for us.
As we began to walk towards Ally's room, I heard footsteps and smiled. I was excited to see her, but then I noticed she was holding a trash can.
"Ally, what are you doing with your bin?"
Her face changed instantly at my question, and she looked terrified.
"I'm sorry." She quickly stepped out of my reach, "I didn't mean to. I didn't know where the bathroom was, and I felt sick. I didn't mean to throw up in the bin, but there was no other."
'Mate was sick!' Asher was on full alert.
"Ally, it's alright." I reached out for the bin, but she cringed away, why would she be so afraid because she threw up, what did they do to her in that f*cking school!?
"You are not in trouble." I told her gently and reached for the bin again. "Please give me the bin."
She shook my head, "I should clean it, I just-"
"Ally, this is Anita." I told her quickly. Perhaps the witch could help her relax. "She will be your maid. She can clean the bin for you. Please give it to me."
Ally looked at Anita for a moment, "I don't want or need a maid." She told me, "I won't participate in enslaving witches."
I suppressed a growl. I literally freed the witches? How could she think I'd keep slaves as my own?
"I do not keep slaves." I told her, "Everyone that works for me does so of their own free will, and they are paid the same amount I pay the Lycan's, but if you do not want her, then I will dismiss her, but please know that she has children to feed so if you want them to starve then-"
'Hypocrite!' Asher snarled, 'You literally just threatened to kill her children, and now you're using them to manipulate our mate.'
'I'd never actually harm her children.' I was a little offended that he thought I would. My threat was a lie. 'I just needed to know Ally would be taken care of.'
"No, it's fine." Ally said, interrupting myself and Asher. "She can stay."
"Wonderful." I couldn't help but smile. I knew that would convince her to take the maid. "Now, would you please pass me the bin."
She hesitated for a moment more before finally handing me the bin, which I passed over to Anita.
"Please clean the bin and then return it to the Luna's room." I told her, "You can start properly tomorrow morning."
"Yes your majesty, thank you." She bowed, and left with the bin, taking the smell of Ally"s stomach contents with her.
"Are you feeling better?" I asked and looked her over. Why had she been sick? "Should I fetch my sister to check you over again?"
"I'm alright now." She responded quickly, "Thank you."
'I don't believe her.' Asher argued, 'Get Ammy and have Ally examined again.'
'We can't force her, if she says she's okay, we need to believe her.'
"Come with me." I reached out for her, but she hugged her arms around herself to avoid touching me, so I lowered his hand again. Did she have no desire to touch me? That was all I wanted, just to feel her skin on mine.
I ignored the sting of rejection again, and led her down the hallway.
"This is my room." I pointed, I wished more than anything that she would share it with me some day. "You can go in there whenever you wish, and you may use the bathroom in there but there is also a bathroom here."
I opened the heavy wooden door and walked inside, so I followed after him quietly.
"I'm sorry, I put you in a room without a private bathroom, but I wanted you to be in the bedroom closest to mine." I admitted, perhaps if she knew how much I longed to be closer to her, she'd give me a chance. "But this bathroom will be set up with everything you need."
"Thank you." She said, but her eyes were glued to the shower. "What is this?"
"You've never seen a shower before?"
"No." She shook my head, "What's a shower?"
'Why doesn't mate know what a shower is?' Asher growled, 'Did they not let her bathe at that retched school!?'
"How did you bathe at the school?" I asked.
"In the tub."
"Well, this is a shower." I told her, feeling slightly relieved that she was at least allowed to use a bathtub to wash herself. "It's like a bath, but you stand up in it."
I reached over, and turned on the water, but Ally gasped, and grabbed my sleeve. I felt an instant rush of the bond all over my arm, it felt so amazing, and I never wanted it to stop. Could she not feel this? She should have been able to, even before she had to shift.
"It's like a waterfall." She sounded fascinated, and her eyes lit up with awe and wonder.
"You like waterfalls?" I asked as I looked at her beautiful face.
"I do."
'We could take mate to the falls in the woods.' Asher said excitedly.
She reached out, and touched the water, but she jumped a little, and pulled her hand back, sh*t was it to hot for her.
"It's hot." She said, but she didn't sound like she was in pain. It was more like she was surprised.
"Of course." I said and stopped the water, "You didn't have hot water at the school?"
"No." She answered, and looked down at her hand holding my arm.
She quickly pulled back, and moved away from me, and I felt instantly cold. I wanted her back near me, but right now I had more important things to deal with, was she suggesting they never let her take a warm bath.
"So, how did you take a bath?" I asked her. I was feeling completely awful once more for leaving her in that school all these years.
"I would warm the water with my powers." She said, as if it was no big deal that they had deprived her a warm bath. "I would do it for the others as well, but I would often get punished for using my powers without permission."
'PUNISH HER!' Asher growled. He was salivating for blood. 'I WANT THAT MOTHER KILLED!'
"I see." I nodded, as I made plans to go back to that school, "Punished how?"
She shrugged, and I felt a rage building up inside of me. No wonder she hated me. Every second of her life had been tortured at the hands of my own people.
"Sometimes it was a beating. Sometimes mother would make me bathe outside in the pond at night, she would hold her hand in the water to make sure I didn't warm it."
I growled furiously at the idea of her being naked in public, but I frightened her, and she spun around and stepped back.
"No, please Ally, don't be afraid." I quickly rained in my temper, "I'm not angry at you. I was angry about how you were treated. You didn't do anything wrong."
Her heart was racing in fear, and it killed me to know I'd caused this reaction. I reached out to comfort her, but I only made it worse. She cringed away from me again.
"I wish you wouldn't do that." I slowly lifted her face and got lost in the blue of her eyes. "I would never strike you, not ever, no matter what you do or say. I will never raise a hand to you in anger, I promise."
"Men always promise that." She said and pulled away. What men have hurt her? "And they always lie and break that promise."
"Not me, not this man." I told her and I meant it. "I will never hurt you."
"We'll see." She commented sadly.
'I want the names of every man who's ever struck her.' Asher growled, 'I want that school burnt to the ground. They beat her, humiliated her, starved her!'
"Did you manage to eat anything?" I asked when Asher reminded me of her starvation.
"No."
"I wish you'd try to eat during the day." I pleaded and looked over her thin body. "I don't want you hungry, you should never have been starved the way you were. But things are different now. I will make sure you are taken care of properly."
"I don't need anyone to take care of me."
"And yet I will do it anyway." I informed her, "Please shower and change for dinner. We will go down in an hour."
"Do I have to?" She asked, "I don't want to go."
"I understand that being around so many Lycan's is frightening for you, but I swear you will never be harmed while I am by your side." I promised her, I'd kill anyone who dared to lay a finger on my girl. "And I want you to eat something, please Ally." I added when she looked like she was about to argue, "I will be patient, and let you fight me on something"s, but when it comes to your safety or health, I will not tolerate arguments, everything I do is for your benefit, now go change."
I didn't give her a chance to argue, and left her to go into my room. I began making plans to investigate all the witch schools. In all fairness, I should have taken better care of the children in the schools.
I felt beyond guilty about my attitude this morning. I was ready for the visit to be over with. I didn't care about the children, I only went because it was my duty, all those years I'd been going to that school and I left her there every year all alone and being abused.
I growled angrily and punched the stone wall in my closet, and I kept punching it until I calmed down, but when I was sane enough to realize what I'd done, I had destroyed half the wall.
"Dam it!" I shouted, and looked down at my bloody fists that were already healing.
I rubbed my face and walked into my bathroom and showered and dressed, but when I left my room I could hear Ally inside her own room. My bedroom was the only one in the wing that was spelled to be soundproof, which was lucky for me seeing as I just annihilated the wall.
I leaned up against the wall, and waited for her, but she was taking too long. I began to pace back and forth around her door, several times I reached for the handle. I wanted to go in. I should be allowed to, it's my home, I was the King, I should be able to go anywhere in my palace that I wished, but then I remembered that she was still afraid of me and I didn't want to make it worse, so I returned to leaning against the wall.
Finally, Ally"s bedroom door opened up, and the sweet smell of scent flowed from the open doorway and swam around me, I pushed off of the wall and went over to her.
"Are you ready?" I asked. She looked so lovely.
I was pleased when she blushed, and looked at her feet, was she coming around finally.
"Actually," She said shyly, "I can't... the dress, I can't do up the back, I've never had a dress I had to tie off, and I can't reach it."
My heart raced in excitement, and I stepped closer to my girl.
"I don't mind helping you." I told her, "Please turn around."
Ally hesitated for a moment, but she finally turned around. Her back was exposed, and I was beyond tempted to run my fingers down her spine, but upon closer inspection, I noticed a few scars over her back. I wanted to ask her about them, but I didn't want to lose control again. I will bring it up again in a few days.
I reached out, and touched her soft hair and pushed it over her shoulders. It pained me when she tensed in fear again but I continued on to tighten the ribbon, though I couldn't help but imagine undoing it and pulling the dress off of her.
'Focus id*ot!' Asher demanded.
'Don't pretend like you don't want the same thing.' I argued, but then I spoke to my mate.
"Is this too tight?"
"No." She answered softly before clearing her throat. Was I affecting her after all?
I couldn't help it any longer, my control slipped, and I ran my hand down her back, but then I came to my senses and pulled away and pulled my hand back.
"You're perfect, shall we?"
As she stepped away, my eyes ran over her body, and I realized she wasn't wearing shoes. "Where are your shoes?"
"Do I have to wear them?"
"Won't you get cold?" I worried.
"No."
I wanted to argue the stone ground was cold, and she had suffered enough, but she really did seem perfectly at ease, so I didn't force her into footwear.
"If you are sure you won't get cold, then that's okay, and you look very pretty in that color."
I walked past her, and together we headed towards the dining hall.
"Your majesty."
"Please don't call me that." I asked, "Use my name."
"I don't think that's appropriate." She told me and I ground my teeth, "Any way, I wanted to talk to you about my bedroom door."
"What about it?" I asked in confusion, "Is it broken?"
"No." She shook her head, "It's just that the door doesn't lock. I was hoping I could have the key to the door and the one to the bathroom."
I frowned, "Why would you want to lock the door?"
"For privacy." She said as if it was obvious.
"You may have the one for the bathroom." I said after a moment of thought, "I will have your maid put it in your room but not to your bedroom. The doors are reinforced. If anything happens to you in there, I need to be able to get in."
"I don't want you to get in." She argued, "That is the point. I don't need your help."
"No, you don't want my help." I pointed out, "It's not the same thing as not needing help."
I stopped and gently grabbed her arm. "Ally," I said gently, "I understand you have been through a lot, and you are afraid to lean on someone, but whether you like it or not, I am apart of your life now, and I will always help you if I think you need it and I don't want to upset you, but you will not have a key to that door, your safety is the most important thing to me now."
She pouted and turned away, cracking her hard shell would be harder than I thought, but I also knew it would be worth it.
"Come." I gestured for her to begin walking again.
"Your majesty." A female worker bowed and smiled at me as she passed us, I was happy when I noticed Ally glared at her.
That small gesture of jealousy satisfied me for the rest of our walk to the dining hall. I really hoped dinner went better than lunch. I hoped my uncle would choose to eat at his home, however my dream was squashed when we entered the dining hall, and he was sitting at my table again, only this time my cousin was with him.
"Ally." I pulled out a chair for her.
"Thank you." She said and quickly sat down.
"How are you after some rest, Luna?" My uncle said kindly, but I knew he had an ulterior motive.
"Don't call me Luna." She said quickly, and I sat down angrily.
"Yes, call her Luna." I corrected and glared at my mate, "Ally, stop telling people not to use your title. You need to accept what you are."
She frowned and looked down at her lap. I took a breath and let it go as I placed a plate in front of her.
"Please eat."
"Is anyone going to introduce me to my new and very beautiful Luna?" Landon smiled at my mate.
I growled in warning, “That is the last time you call her beautiful Landon!”
