CHAPTER 40: SARAH

Sarah shoved her phone in her purse as she walked out of her bedroom.
“Everything okay?” asked Maisie.
“Yeah.” If Nick being pissed at her again was okay.
Maisie just stared at her.
“It’s fine.” Her sister had a way of reading her like no one else. “Nick was going to come by and pick me up.”
“And you refused?”
“Yeah. It was out of his way.” She looked down at Tank. She wasn’t good at lying to her sister. She had no idea where Nick had gone so she had no idea if it were out of his way.
“Mom, you coming? We’re going to turn on the movie,” yelled Kyle from the living room.
“I’ll be there in a minute. You two can start.” Maisie lowered her voice. “I have some info to dig out of my sister.”
“It’s no big deal.”
