Chapter 5

BRYN Oh, this was too good to be true! Amira and I looked at each other and smirked, hiding it away quickly so that the Beta did not notice it! My, or better to say Eiryn’s, husband-to-be was on top of some girl who was moaning while another girl watched at their side. Both women were still dressed. If, of course, you could call those flimsy things dresses. And Alistair North was actively helping one of them out of her corset with one hand, while the other hand was already lost somewhere between her thighs. His shirt was undone, his hair messy, and he didn’t seem to notice us at all. “Oh my Goddess!” I screamed as loudly as I could and the three of them flinched and turned in our direction at once. “Lady Landon.” The Beta quickly stepped in front of me, trying to obstruct my view and cover for his Alpha. “That’s not what it looks like–” “Is she dying?!” I shrieked and the puzzled expression on his face alone was worth the whole trip. “What are you waiting for? Go get a healer! The poor girl is so young!” “Erm, of course.” He nodded, still not sure that I whether I was serious or not. Werewolves had healers, but they were mostly not needed since they healed well on their own. So, that wasn't the most popular request. Their healer probably lived far away from here. But we didn't care about that, did we? “Lady…Landon.” The fake fiancé seemed shocked. For the first time, I took in what I would be working with. Life was unfair because werewolves were by far one of the most attractive magical species out there. And all of them taken together had nothing on Alistair North. The pictures I’d seen of him did not do him justice. Those mesmerising blue eyes were piercing my soul; his hair shone like dark gold; and straight facial lines added masculinity to his perfect looks. Not to mention the very well-trained muscles on his abdomen that were visible now through his undone shirt. “You are early!” he said, clearly surprised by my sudden appearance. “Are you crazy?!” I covered my mouth. “Don’t stop!” His jaw was somewhere on the floor as I continued, “The girl is unwell! You were helping her, right?!” “Of course he was!” the Beta interjected, and I had to bite my cheek from the inside to hold back a laugh. “So?!” I looked at him expectantly and he turned back to the girl under him and started pressing on her chest with both hands. Unenthusiastically. But still. “Oh, you are doing this wrong!” I rolled my eyes and pushed Amira towards them. “My maid here knows how to give first aid professionally! Just let her do it!” The Beta ran up to his Alpha and almost dragged him aside. Luckily his pants were still done. Amira didn’t waste time and jumped on top of the girl, who was probably under mental Alpha order at this point, pressing on her chest vigorously until we all clearly heard the sound of her rib breaking, and the poor patient screamed loudly. I checked with Len and he signalled to me that she was an Omega, the weakest of them all. So, we slightly overdid it. “Oh Goddess!” I gasped. “What is wrong with her?!” “I think bleeding her slightly may help!” Amira suggested with a wicked glimmer in her eyes. The girl under her tried to protest silently. And the other three wolves from their pack in the room yelled in unison, “No!” “The healer is almost here!” Beta Duncan tried to reassure me, “I think you helped…enough. She looks so much better…” She wasn’t looking better. In fact, she looked terrible now and was still clutching her chest. Guilt washed over me. But luckily, werewolves were known for healing within hours. So, at least I knew she would be fine tomorrow. That's what I called wrong time, wrong place The healer and two men who looked like warriors arrived, and took both girls out, leaving the five of us in the prince’s chambers. The rooms looked messy too, just like the rest of the house. I noticed piles of papers on the desk, dirty clothes – not always male – here and there… Dirty brandy glasses also did not escape me. No wonder Eiryn did not want to marry him. She preferred polished rich boys. And this Alistair guy did give a– “How was your trip?” he asked finally, breaking my train of thought. “Average.” I raised my brow and started my next attack. “Dear fiancé, I am so proud of you for helping a woman in need. But this is not how we should greet each other for the first time. So, how about we postpone it until tomorrow then? When the house is ready and all.” “The house?” He looked at me dumbfoundedly. “Uh-huh.” I nodded. “It’s such a mess right now! I did come early and ruined all your preparations! It looks like your mansion was in the middle of a serious cleaning up that wasn’t finished. But that’s fine. I can wait until tomorrow. I think the night would be enough, right?” He didn’t answer and I fluttered my long lashes, asking again, “Right?!” “Of course, my lady!” the Beta stepped in again, while the Alpha clearly wanted to say something else, judging by his clenched fists and the golden glow in his eyes. Gold was the colour of the royal wolves in Phevran, and they were the most ferocious of their kind. Yet one thing was for sure, he couldn’t touch me. As in Eiryn me. This alliance was too important to physically harm an almost-princess from another country. That was why it wouldn’t be easy to break it. But the Alpha was already properly pissed for the night, so it would be best to retreat now. “Great!” I clapped my hands in excitement. “Show me to my rooms then! I am so tired. And, dear fiancé, we’ll see each other tomorrow! Can’t wait!” It didn’t escape me how Duncan jabbed the prince with his elbow secretly, prompting the latter to reply, “Me too. How will I survive until the morning?!” That sounded a bit like a threat. But I just giggled and waved my hand at him as the Beta tried to walk us out of the room. “Oh, by the way,” I said, “I hope Amy, Len, and Rafael have rooms right next to mine? They are my most loyal–” “You’ll have new guards appointed to you.” I heard Alistair’s voice and turned once again to face him. “No, thank you!” I smiled. “In a foreign country, I’d prefer to have my own people serving me. At least for now.” “The rooms next to yours are taken by my best warriors!” he growled. “Then luckily they are strong enough to move during the night! Let's put all that strength into action!” I sneered at him and that glow appeared again. “As you wish, my lady!” Duncan said quickly and practically pushed us out of the room. “The maid can stay in your room for tonight and the guards will have their rooms ready first thing in the morning.” “How nice of you!” I tittered, walking away and throwing one last glance at my fake fiancé. “What a great beginning! Don’t you think?” "Unforgettable," he said through gritted teeth.
