Forty-Five: Face to Face

1161 Words

Face to Face Forty-Five: Costa Turning onto the old dirt road, driving very slowly as I don’t think it has been grated in this century. Geovanni is in the back trying not to make a noise with every bump that I cannot help but to hit. “Sorry boss, we are almost there.” I hear his grunt as the lights from the house come into view. “You know Costa. I was always told that to keep the ones you love safe. You need to stay far away from them. Never to contact or talk to them. That way no one knows your feelings towards them, and they cannot be used against you.” I hum my response. “It took me all of these years to realize one thing that I was never told about.” I glance at him in the rearview mirror. “What is that boss.” I ask as he is staring outside of the window into the pitch-black night.
