Chapter #12; Ammara’s Affairs

“Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe he just has the dagger and I didn’t see it.” She testified in a rushed tone. His heavy breathing relaxed a little. “Yeah, maybe you didn’t see it.” Odin muttered to himself, trying to pace his paranoia. “Anyway, can I talk to your brother?” “... Why?” Ammara thought her brother had done something and gotten himself into a pickle. “I need to talk to him.” He was definitely up to something. “Yeah, sure...” . . . Mr. Sular had just left Ryeon’s room when Odin came. He briefed the boy on what he needed to know about what just happened. Odin felt a hand placed on his shoulder. “I don’t know anything about what’s happening to him. But please help him. However you can.” Mr. Sular entrusted him with the complexity of the situation. Odin gently knocked on the birch wood door frame. “Whitewashed boy... Hi...” Ryeon scrambled back on his feet with a wonky smile, sweating profusely. He gave the boy a demeaning askance before starting. “Where’s the dagger?” His head fell heavy as he revealed the details of the robbery. “Who’s Iris?” “This girl at school who keeps annoying me.” “Did you see anyone else?” Odin’s tone instantly became a lot more direct, almost like he was interrogating the tween. “The—there was Aibek’s helper...” Ryeon started to feel the silent pressure coming from the death glare. “And?” “And what?” Ryeon looked up at Odin, who suddenly looked to stand much taller; it made him feel insignificant. “He... uh... apologised to me.” There was a certain level of uncertainty in the statement. Odin’s senses were overwhelmed once again, this time with confusion. “What for?” His voice grew deeper and deeper with each query. “For... everything.” He muttered under his breath, questioning his own sanity. “What do you mean for everything?” Ammara surveyed the scene from behind the door as the tension in the air grew more and more intense. What should she do? What should she do? What should she do? The door creaked slightly open as she crept into the room, right under the boys’ nose as they kept going back and forth with the gibberish details. She had to help Ryeon out of this mess. Ammara noticed the dull white bandaging from under Odin’s arm. Gently lifting the cricket bat in the corner, the pale wood now grey from all the dust, she stood complacent behind Odin. Ryeon saw through her and subtly started to shake his head as Odin questioned him. Ammara gave him a mischievous smirk, before raising the bat shakily with her weak arms into the air and swinging it toward her aim of Odin’s right arm. He howled as he crumpled onto the floor while gripping a strong hold, digging his nails into the threads of the dark hoodie. Ryeon just stood there awkwardly, gaping, wondering if he should get help or be the help. Ammara grabbed his arm and dragged him out of there, tumbling against the walls of her house. As they approached the staircase, he pulled her to a halt. “What in the world is wrong with you?” She didn’t stop to think what she was about to do, and doing so gave her freckles a crimson undertone. She draped her hand over her face to make sure Ryeon couldn’t see the mess. “You—you were in trouble!” She argued with a muffled pitch. “Who gave you the bright idea to even think that?” “بچوں۔۔۔” A heavy voice boomed from below. “Now look what you’ve done! Go back to your magic mirror...” “ENOUGH WITH THE MAGIC MIRROR” She squealed with quite a pitch whilst twisting his clenched arm. The sound of heavy footsteps ascended up the stairs as the both of them scrambled back onto their feet. “کیا ہوا؟” They both stood tall with their shoulders straight, like soldiers going into battle. Not a sound could be heard from them as he demanded to know what the ruckus was about. Midway through the lecture he recalled something. “Where’s the pale boy?” She imperceptibly lowered her head, whispering her query. “What’s his name?” “I think it was Oddis.” He muttered back in a soft tone. “What do you mean ‘you think’?” A harsh murmuring filled the air shortly interrupted by a loud grunt. They both lowered their gaze, now brainstorming a way out of this mess, the gears in their head churning speedily. Mr. Sular repeated his question, demanding to know where Odin was. “He... uh... left.” He marginally raised his eyebrows, not believing in her folly one bit. “No one went out the door.” “He didn’t need the door, he flew out the window.” His head dropped as his fingers wrung his forehead. He silently turned, marching towards the room where it happened. Odin was still there, crouched on the ground, moaning in pain. Mr. Sular was horrified upon seeing his state. “What happened beta?” “Your lovely young daughter hit my broken arm with a bat.” He gave the girl an excruciating glare before returning back to his state. “Just you wait teri amma ko bataon ga.” The threat made her whimper in her stance. “Do you need help?” He queried in a worrisome tone as he helped him back on his feet. “I just need to know where that friend of Ryeon’s is.” Odin had grown tired of the whole dilemma and just wanted to get everything over with. He flexed and stretched his hand to get rid of the buzzing pangs. “He lives on the ground floor of the apartment complex of this very street.” Ammara stood there in shame as Ryeon led him out the door. “Sorry about Ammara Oddis.” It looked like someone had pricked him with a needle. “My name is Odin.” He commented in a rather dangerous tone. Such a crime committed in such a bold manner... 15th April 2021, Thursday. Ammara; Oh my god I feel so bad. I hit a kid with a broken arm with a bat. What was I thinking? I should’ve just distracted him with Mr. Minho Meow. That would’ve totally worked. Oh and Iris definitely kidnapped Ryeon. And she stole the dagger. And some weird dude apologised to him. I should do that. I should apologise to that boy. He looked like a ghost. Even more so when he was standing in the bright sun with the dark hood. I thought that I was going to die. I thought Izrael had come to receive my soul. I thought I’d go to hell. He just looked THAT sinister. Anyway if I didn’t die then I’m definitely about to once amma comes home. I wonder what his mother’s going to be like. He probably got quite an earful when he broke his arm. Melanie; That i***t came back. This time without his pal. The recontre went fine. It was boring. The moment it got interesting Dolores forced me out of there. She let me back in after he left the place he burned. I saw him run outside. He stole Odin’s cape and it was on fire. Now Dolores will never shut up about him not covering his face. Odin looks like a sad white rabbit who didn’t get its banana every time she starts. It’s so boring without a bestie. I’m going to hunt for besties soon. I think I got a head start. There’s this girl from TFSS named audrey who doesn’t have an arm. She’s dangerously good with a spear. I think she’ll be even better with a sword.
