Chapter One
“Amelia, come to my office.”
I blinked at the small intercom that sat on my desk and then slowly turned and looked at the frosted glass doors that led to his office.
CEO Marcus Blackwell, that’s what was etched into the glass. I had stared at that door more times than I could count in the past nine months that I had been working here; it was rare for Mr. Blackwell to call me into his office. Sure I was his secretary and doubled as his personal assistant most days, but his office was his space.
I let out a sigh as I pushed away from my desk and stood up, I smoothed my hair back away from my face. My heels clicked on the dark tiled floor, the sound louder than normal in the empty office. I brought my hand up and gently knocked on the door, why was I so nervous? Had I done something that had made him angry?
I’d heard rumors that Mr. Blackwell had quite the temper, but had yet to see anything of the such outside of the boardroom. In there, he looked fierce and other-worldly, a man ready to take on anything. I’d had more daydreams of him, using the same commanding voice he did in the board room on me.
He’d tell me in that voice, the one I liked to think of as his dominant voice, “I saw the way you were watching me.” His deep voice a low sexy rumble as his hands moved from my waist to swat my-
“Amelia, what are you just standing there for? Come in,” He said his voice a loud growl through the door making me jump out of my daydream before it got good. That was probably for the best, it wouldn’t do to try and talk to him all hot and bothered.
I pushed the door open and walked into his office, Mr. Blackwell sat behind his large mahogany desk, his long fingers practically flying over the delicate-looking keyboard with ease. He glanced up at me, his dark eyes were unreadable as he watched me walk closer.
“You needed me, Sir,” I asked in a rush as I stopped in front of his desk, I clasped my hands in front of me to keep from nervously fidgeting with my hair again.
“I do need you,” he said as he stood and slowly moved to stand in front of me. I looked up at him, I wasn’t short standing at 5 foot six inches my without heels. With the three-inch heels, I had on he stood a good half a foot taller than me. I felt something clench low in the pit of my stomach, I wasn’t sure if it was anxiety or arousal at his words.
“Whatever you need Sir,” I said looking up at him, I instantly wanted to kick myself. Even to my own ears, I sounded breathless and needy. It had been to long since I had been intimate with anyone.
He must think I’m some kind of freak, there goes my job. I might as well take myself to HR right now, I looked away embarrassed as I felt my face heating up.
“I like to hear that,” Mr. Blackwell said in ‘the voice’ my head snapped up as my eyes widened. He held out a list to me, “I need you to go pick up these items, I have some important guests coming this evening. You’ll find the items in the basement.”
“Yes, S, s, Sir.” I stuttered out, still on edge from his earlier tone of voice with me.
“Thank you, Amelia.” He said with the same tone as before, and I felt my heart flutter in my chest. Oh no, this wasn’t good. I couldn’t be feeling this way for my boss, sure a daydream here or there was fine. This fluttering though was not.
I took the paper from his hand and his fingers brushed against mine.
Oh no, I looked up locking eyes with him; he was smirking. Well crap, that fluttering started to get worse as I pulled my hand back grasping the list.
“I’ll get right on this Mr. Blackwell, Sir,” I said turning around and all but running from the room, I looked back as I closed the door Mr. Blackwell was leaning against his desk a small smile on his lips, his arms crossed over his muscular chest that even his well-tailored suit couldn’t hide..
What could that mean?
