I Could Be Hers..... She Could Be Mine

“Come on dude.” I felt a pat from the elite team captain, today’s been a good day. Full of physical training, and getting our patches and jackets. It feels like a gang, but it isn’t. I’m just honored to be a part of it.
“Where?”
“Your pops is getting celebrated.”
Crap! I forgot. I gotta stop by and get the present I have for him.
‘How nice. Do you also want to mop his shoes?’
Not now, Michal. Keep your grumpiness to yourself.
He didn’t but I ignored him.
“Thanks for reminding me. You guys go, I’m gonna shower, change, and grab the gift I have for him.”
After a few goodbyes, I moved to get things done. Taking a quick bath, changed my clothes into something that could deal with the heat, and grabbed the gift... I’ve had this with me for a whole year, it’s time I gave it to him.
Yevgeny has been my father since mine .... he’s just been a father to me, and I cannot thank him enough. I hope this shows him at least half of how much I appreciate his kindness.
‘You know what will really make him see you’re grateful? Marrying Adeline.’
Your brain must be a f*****g mess. That’s my brother’s girl.
‘Yeah, okay. I’m sure hugging her, driving her to the event committee, memorizing all her favorite things, and being a better person to her than her own boyfriend is a sign that you respect your brother. You’re playing with yourself, Serbal. A demon claims his mate, he does not resist and act as bitchy as you do.’
‘I swear to all that is right, Michal, leave the poor boy alone.’ Josiah came to my rescue.
‘I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware that we were playing the b***h game. She is our mate, not Damien’s. That little dickhead needs to go and find his mate and leave us to ours. Or I swear I’ll kill him the next time I come out.’
‘And that’s why he won’t let you out. Leave him alone. Damien and Adeline have history. They love each other. Rowan needs to find a way to reject her so he can move on.’
Michal laughed so hard my head started to ache.
‘First off, demons cannot reject a mate bond.... the mate rejects the demon, that is how it works. Secondly, you can insult me all you want but even I know Rowan is whipped for that girl. He’s not going anywhere.’
And that’s enough of those two. Fuckers are living in my head rent-free and making it a nightmare for me. They’re like two angry guardians who don’t get along. Wait that’s exactly who they are.
I took my jeep to the area where the event was being held. I’d just parked when I heard the commotion. What in the f**k is going on?
“YOU’RE GOING RULE FOR ANOTHER FEW YEARS? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! WHAT THE f**k IS YOUR PROBLEM WITH ME?!” Oh crap, that’s an angry damien.
“Lower your voice, son. The elders and I just think you’re not ready.”
“I’m not ready? You f*****g bastard. How do you know I’m not ready?!” He’d dropped the yelling, which meant his anger had gotten to a crazy point.
I got out of the car fast and ran. There was a large old library, and from it, Adeline came running out. She and intercepted each other, I had to reach out to hold her or she’d have slammed into me.
“Hey hey, I have to stop him-”
“So do I. But no, you stay right here. He’s really pissed, you could get hurt.”
I waited for her usual, ‘he would never hurt me’ line. But she said nothing. She looked worried. There’s definitely something wrong. And f**k, I felt like the devil for how happy it made me think she was having problems with my brother.
I’m a bad person.
“Okay, I’m coming with you though. I’ll just stay a bit from his range.”
I nodded, and we started to run towards the circle that the crowd had formed.
“Relax son, we can talk about it-”
“Talk about it? You just came on here to tell people you won’t let me take the lead. You don’t trust me, do you? You and this f*****g old set of bastards.”
“Don’t insult the elders. They have done so much for us. Yes, I don’t f*****g trust you. You’re so brash. You don’t appreciate the roots of this f*****g pack. I worked to make it this good, but you act like you don’t f*****g care.”
“I do, if you’d give me the chance-”
“f**k no. Spend the next few years showing me and I might reconsider!”
“Damien, DON’T!” Adeline shouts, and it prompts me to rush towards him as he lunges at his father. I grabbed him, putting him in an immediate chokehold. Damien fights me, clawing my bare arms as he tries to free himself. I feel nothing but fear for how Yevgeny and the pack will react to this.
He tried to attack his own father, f**k. He’s never going to escape this shame.
I held him until he passed out, and the people around me clapped. I don’t want this. I have a bad feeling this is going to be the start of alot of problems. And I can’t escape it.
I threw him over my shoulder, prepared to take him back to the house. Yevgeny reached out to hold my hand.
“We must talk later.” the elders nodded behind him, and the clapping reduced. Yeah, this won’t be good for me.
I nodded, swallowing and trying to keep the worries away. I don’t want anything to come between me and my best friend. But this... he tried to attack his father, that’s something the pack will never let him forget.
I walked back to my jeep and placed him in. I turned just as Adeline, reached for the passenger door.
“Can I go home with you?”
Of course, you can. I can get us a house anywhere you want- f**k me, I should not be thinking that.
She was scared. But this isn’t her first time seeing him angry, maybe not this angry but she’s experienced it before. Their problems are coming from something deeper.
‘She needs your comfort then, that’s how we get in. Damien is spiraling, use it to your advantage.’
Michal was sounding like the devil on my shoulder, I have to try to mend what’s broken between these two. She loves him. I need to remember that.
But as I drove her home with my brother passed out in the back, I found myself struggling even more to convince myself. It’s hard when she’s my mate.... she’s not mine.
I need to remember that. They will solve their problems, and I’m gonna be that i***t who tried to make a move and ruined two good friendships.
