I stood at the window of my small servant's quarters, gazing out at the castle grounds. The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. It was beautiful, but I couldn't fully appreciate it. My mind was racing, filled with thoughts of our precarious situation. Since our escape and return to the castle, Lily and I had been walking on eggshells.
