AUTHOR POV: "How far does one have to run away to evade facing their nightmares in real life?" This question had been haunting Anna's mind for a considerable time. Even after enduring significant losses and somehow surviving the ordeal, she managed to escape that harrowing situation, only to encounter a new threat standing right in front of her – the devil himself. Desperately blinking her eyes, she hoped that it was just another one of her nightmares and that he would disappear from her sight. However, this time, her hopes were shattered, as he showed no sign of leaving. His dark, penetrating gaze seemed to pierce through her very soul as he silently observed her. Although there were many unsaid things between them, both remained silent, until Anna eventually decided to take matters into her own hands and made a run for her life. With a horrified gasp, she froze in her spot as a bullet tore through the door in front of her, narrowly missing her while her back was turned to him. "If I were you, I would never make the same mistake again, sweetheart," his deep, husky voice echoed, stirring up memories she had desperately tried to forget but couldn't. The sound of his voice alone was enough to quicken her heartbeat. She wasn't foolish enough to take another step and put herself in the same vulnerable position as the door that had just been shot. "Say something, my sweetheart. I am dying to hear your sweet voice," he spoke, taking small and deliberate steps towards her, like a predator trying not to startle its prey. He stopped just a few inches behind her, and she stood there, resembling a lifeless statue, unmoving and speechless. "You smell so sweet, just like before. You don't know how much I missed this," he said, taking her into his arms from behind. Her senses returned after noticing the gun in his hand, which he was using to hold her captive at that moment. "Let go! I will start screaming," she said, exerting all her strength to free herself from his grasp, but he had other intentions. It's never easy to make a hungry lion abandon its prey, after all. "Go ahead. But don't scream my name, which you'll inevitably do in my bedroom. I don't prefer suspense; you know that very well, don't you?" he whispered into her ear, delivering the sinister statement. Upon hearing his words, she stopped moving, frozen by the disturbing implications of his threat. ‘’HELP……’’ she was not even able to complete the first word when he silenced her by putting his hand on her mouth and turning her over to face him this time. ‘’Why stop? Go ahead.’’ He spoke mockingly, smirking to see her struggle in his strong grip. His amusement-felt eyes were holding so many other emotions as well while she only looked at him with complete terror.
