Chapter Six: Job Opportunity.  AVERY (AVA) RODGERS P.O.V: “What the fuck..?” I murmured as I unclasped my hand from the handle of my front door. My eyes trained across my phone's screen. Perplexed when I read the text message again; "Good morning, Chloe. I hope you receive this message as soon as possible. We regret to inform you that the position for which you applied for at Daniel's Donuts has now been filled, and you are no longer required to attend the interview. We apologise for the inconvenience and wish you the best of luck.” "What the hell!" With my eyes still riveted to my phone, I grew enraged as I walked toward Lana's room. I had been looking forward to this job interview for two days because it was the only job offer I had received in two weeks. On top of that, I even spent over $500 on the ideal dress for it. However, when I bought the dress yesterday, I did not expect the job that I applied for, cancel the arranged interview thirty minutes before the scheduled time. The fact that they did so though, got my blood boiling. As I approached Lana's room. With one hand, I pushed Lana's door open with a little force while holding out my phone with the other. "You're not going to believe what just happened!" I yelled as I walked into Lana's room. My eyes grew wide as I looked at Lana who was sitting at her computer workstation, engaged in what looked to be a vital virtual conference call with Harlan Braxton and two other men. She gave me a harsh glare from across the room before returning her gaze to the computer in front of her, smiling confidently and resuming the conversation she was having before I rudely interrupted her. "Oops, sorry" I mumbled hastily before gently exiting her room and closing the door behind me. As I strolled down the hallway towards my room, I thought to myself, "Oh, I'm so dead." Because I'm only now realising that the one thing she instructed us not to do, I did it anyway. When we were having dinner last night, she told us (Well, me specifically) that she was having an important meeting with a prince from Peru and she pleaded, that we don't bother while she was in that meeting. But I was so perplexed by the text message I got that it completely escaped my mind. My fingers grasped the doorknob to my bedroom. In my hand, my phone vibrated. "Incoming message. Incoming message," it rang out loud. I lifted the phone up to my face before swiping the notification bar down on my phone and taping 'view message'. Under my own breath, I slightly let a moan when the message appeared across the screen.  "Ay, 'Come back here right now," Lana said in her first message.  Then in her second message that was sent, she wrote "Oh, can you please bring me a huge slice of apple pie too" before sending me a "love you" text. Which made me roll my eyes immediately.  At the very least, one thing is certain: she is not going to murder me, just yet. I sighed deeply and opened the door to my room, tossed my phone onto my bed then made my way toward the kitchen. I remained there for a minute or two as I entered the kitchen. Just simply shaking my head.  Last night, Lachlan was in charge of cleaning the kitchen, but nothing had been done. Dishes were stacked high in the sink, crumbs littered the floor, and the bench was completely filthy. The one I hate the most is the dirty f*****g kitchen. How is anyone meant to eat in a dirty kitchen? Frustrated, I threw my hair up in a messy, tight bun and begun clearing the bench. Once the bench was cleared and cleaned, I got busy cleaning the dishes, then the floor. I got so carried away that I forgot about cutting a slice of pie for Lana. "Oh boy, am I going to get it," I mumbled as I sliced an apple pie for Lana. I delicately placed the pie on a white saucer and topped it with fresh whipped cream and banana slices. I decided to cut myself a slice since it looked so nice. Once done, I picked up both plates and made my way to Lana's room. When I got close to Lana's door, it sprang open, startling me so much that I almost dropped our pies. "What the hell!" I growled. Lana leaned against her door frame, laughing. I scolded her. "Well, are you going to help me out? Or are you going to stand there laughing at me, you silly sausage?" She took a dish from my hand and headed over to her bed, where she stuffed her face with pie. "Well, what took you so long? Lana retorted. I thought you had a job interview this morning?." She gazed up at me, eyebrows pinched with a mouth full of pie.  I took comfort on the edge of bed. "Yeah, I was suppose to have an interview but the assholes cancelled" I replied, then shoved a mouthful of pie into my mouth. "Assholes" I thought to myself. "When did they decide to cancel? Didn't you just bid me farewell?" She responded before putting a mouthful of pie into her mouth. "They cancelled literally a minute before I barg—" I started to say, but my words were cut off abruptly by the song "f**k you from Lily Allen" playing in the background. Lana hurriedly dropped her plate on the bed next her lap, got up, and dashed over to the computer desk to get her ringing phone. She hasn't had a break since she started working for the billionaire hotshot. When I'm with her, she either needs to leave because she has an important meeting or she is always on her phone, which I can't tolerate. She hung up not long after that. I inquired, "Who was that?" She answered, "It's just my boss, he wants my help with something." I nodded and got up from my seat. "It's OK; I was planning on taking a bath anyhow." Before walking out the door, I responded.  "Come!" she said, and I froze in my tracks. "'Wow, that's unusual,' I thought to myself. She has never invited me to accompany her." My tummy flutters with butterflies as a little excitement burbles through my body. I had never seen Lana work as an assistant before. Maybe if I accompany her, I'll be able to acquire additional job experience. "Sure, I'll come," I responded, keeping my cool. "Good, 'she responded as she walked up to her tall boy. My driver will be here in 30 seconds." I smiled as I walked away. "Oh, I can't wait" I giggled to myself in my head. Can't wait to know what it's like to be an assistant.
