Chapter Seventeen The P-51 hit the ground and bounced. And bounced again. Evelyn cringed as she braked the aircraft. Her worst landing ever. Even when she was a student pilot, she hadn’t brought down a plane so hard. Jasper would be waiting for her near the hangar. What would he say about her shoddy performance? Had their conversation from yesterday haunted his thoughts as it had plagued hers? He didn’t mention it before her flight, although he appeared distracted. She brought the plane to a stop and then taxied to the steel garage. Wearing his dress uniform, he stood at the doorway. His slouch hat covered hair that would have glistened in the sun if uncovered.
