Prologue
Ten years ago.
Lexie POV
I realized I was in trouble as soon as the idea of confessing my feelings to Derek popped into my head, but I did it, anyway.
The school bell rang a few minutes ago. I quickly packed my bag and rushed to the cafeteria to meet Rémi and Landon.
I sat beside them at the round table and began to eat my food as I watched them discussing the next football match.
“Red pool is going to win. I mean, it is obvious. Derek is their captain,” Remi said as he took a big bite of his burger.
“Oh, come on, f**k you and your captain. We are going to win. Stop acting like his father’s wealth would improve his skill,” Landon said.
The banter continued, and I watched them, contemplating if I should let them know that I had dropped a love letter in Derek’s locker.
“I dropped it,” I said in a low voice, but their banter still continued.
Gosh, how did I end up making friends with these two inattentive people?
“I.dropped.it” I increased my voice a little, but not too loud to attract the attention of the whole cafeteria.
Landon and Rémi stopped midway and stared at me with a raised eyebrow.
“Dropped what?” Landon asked.
I sighed. I had to do so much to get their attention.
“I wrote how I felt about Derek and dropped it in his locker,” I informed them.
Remi’s eyes widened. “Wait, you what?”
I shrugged. “I dropped it. Told him if he does not feel the same way about me, he should just ignore it”
Landon cursed under his breath as he raked his hand through his black, shining hair.
“What the f**k did you do, Lexie?” Remi whispered loudly enough for the next person sitting close to us to hear.
I glared at him, and he reduced his voice. “You did what? You asked him to ignore it if he does not feel the same way as you? How the hell would he feel for you when Morgana has his heart? How the hell could you be so dumb,” he asked, his face laced with anger.
Landon tapped the table, making us turn to him. He pointed at my back, and we turned swiftly to look at what had gained his attention.
My heart dropped, my face grew pale. Derek and his two other friends made their way towards me. The cafeteria had already fallen silent. Derek and his friends hardly ate here.
While his eyes remained on them, Landon whispered, “Alexander Clark, you are done for.”
My heartbeat increased as their steps came closer. What was he going to say? Was he going to tell me that he felt the same way or that he hated me?
They stopped at our table. Landon and Remi focused on their food like they had no clue of what was happening.
“Are you Lexie Clark?” Derek asked. His voice was cold and emotionless.
A moment of silence passed. Passed. “I believe I asked you a question?”
I took in a shaky breath. It was not going to be that bad. Maybe he just wanted to return my paper quietly and leave.
“Dude, she is the size of our football field,” one of them whispered to his ear.
Shame watched through me as they body shamed me. I was chubby but not fat or obsessed. And I could call myself beautiful. I had a perfect baby face, blue eyes and dimples.
“Yes,” I nodded in a whisper.
“And you were the one that wrote this?” He asked, placing my squeezed love letter on my front.
“Yes” I nodded.
He cleared his throat. “Good!” He turned to the crowd. “Can I have your attention please” he asked. The cafeteria fell more silent. I mean, if you dropped a pin on the floor right now, it would make a noise.
“Dear Derek..” he began and read everything I wrote about him to the whole hall. I bent my head and stared at my food till my eyes grew blurry with tears because I could not see it.
“Imagine someone thrice the size of Mrs Katelyn professing her dirty, worthless love to me,” he added. The whole cafeteria burst into laughter.
Mrs Katelyn was an obsessed woman and I could swear on my father’s grave that I was not even half as fat as she was.
Shame crept into me. Goosebumps filled my skin with anger. What the hell just happened to me?
Fuck! I would have listened to Remi’s advice and stayed clear of him. He pulled me up by my hair and made me face his dark blue eyes.
“I know c**ts like you are always looking for rich men like me to prey on, on, but stay the hell away from me. You came here on scholarship or maybe you f****d the seventy-year-old principal to get the scholarship. I don’t care, but the next time you show your dirty-obessed shapeless face to me I will make sure you regret it!” He said and spat on my face.
By this time, fresh tears had already started rolling down my cheeks freely like a running tap. I cleaned my cheek to remove his disgusting silver.
“Now, let me make this clear. I would never stoop to a worthless w***e li-”
A large blow drove his face from mine. He staggered a little as he caressed his jaw.
“Call her a w***e one more time and I will disfigure your face!” Landon threatened.
The student gasped. No one had dared to challenge him. The entire hall gathered around us, forming a circle.
Derek chuckled, his hands still placed on his cheek. “I see, so you f**k her too, huh?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Landon glared at him, his eyes livid with anger as he curled his hands into a fist.
“Are you the only one f*****g her, or do you organize a threesome with your father?” He asked.
His friends and football fans burst into laughter. While other’s faces remained stoic.
Landon rushed towards him, ready to drive another blow into his face, but I ran into their middle.
I begged Landon, “Please, they will expel you.”
“I don’t care Lexie, let me teach this f*****g cunt lesson. You call my friend a w***e. What about you, who offers your whole body and service to Morgana, knowing fully well that she does not even love you? You are sympathetic!” He shouted.
Shame trickled down my spine. Everyone knew that he was obsessed with Morgana and followed her everywhere like she was the only air he could breathe. But I had been under the illusion that if he for once looked towards me. I would make him fall for him.
Only at this moment did I realize how foolish I was. He was never going to love me.
“Oh please, we both know that is not true,” he answered, although his voice was filled with hurt. “You’re angry that everyone can mess with your little middle-class toy
“Says the t**t that f***s a girl who would willingly have a threesome with his best friend and cousin,” Landon retorted.
Derek rushed at him, pushing me to fall by the side. Even though Landon won, his memory never left my mind.
And from that day onward, all I felt for him went away, replaced with a dark hatred. I would rather die than be his girlfriend. I caused him and wished him an unending agony.
