Jason tried to conceal his smile. He lived to run 18 sweep. The previous play had set up this play. Jason would take the snap, spin and then fake a handoff to Mike who appeared to be running the same sweep around the left end. Except Jason would put the ball into Mike’s gut, wait for him to double over like he had the ball, then Jason would slip the ball out, and hide the ball on his right hip. He had discovered that the fake is even better when he glances over his right shoulder and hesitates for just a second as if watching the handoff. The only difference between the plays is that on 18 sweep, Sparks, the left guard, pulls, letting the left halfback block down on the defensive player coming through the hole. He was a short, powerful but quick lineman, perfect for this play. With
