Chapter Nineteen
Alexia threw her head back and laughed at Ortiz’s joke. This was the perfect cure for a long day at the hospital. Carrie had suggested they go out for drinks after their shift. Alexia had declined at first claiming fatigue. It wasn’t a lie, she was tired. The ER had been busy after a huge car accident on the highway. The ER had filled out quickly, and she had stayed busy until the end of her shift.
She also wasn’t sleeping much. Her thoughts were consumed with Tony and his parting words. He claimed he broke up with her because he thought military life would have been too hard on her. That they would have to move around too much for her to keep a steady job. It’s true it wouldn’t have been easy. Especially when she was going through schooling, but it was a cop-out excuse.
