It felt so strange to walk through the buildings that once housed the people I grew up with. Unfortunately, the buildings were too old and couldn’t be used to help build the new places in my territory. Time will eventually make them part of nature again. They would eventually decay and disappear.
“What are you doing?” Caleb came from behind and slipped his arms around my waist.
“Thinking.” I smiled.
“Oh, that’s dangerous! You shouldn’t do that.” We both burst out laughing at his comment, but our laughter quickly died down.
“I was just thinking about what is going to happen to this place now that everyone is gone. It’s sad, but also beautiful that nature will eventually reclaim it.” I shrugged, turning around in his arms and flinging my arms around his neck.
