Tim and Mike had an enjoyable lunch with Mike’s parents, who adored Tim. He could tell Tim had felt happy and relieved about it. The four of them ended up chatting for hours.
“Mike, how’s work so far?” Susan Weston asked her only child.
“Busy as always, Mom. What have you been up to?”
“Oh, son. You shouldn’t have asked her that!” Nathaniel Weston teased his wife and son, but Mike only grinned at his dad.
He knew his mom could talk on and on for hours on end about the most mundane things. True to form, she started talking about her flowers, her job as a heart surgeon, the nosy neighbors, and ended with several complaints about his father’s long working hours in the office.
