I move over to the table and chairs where lunch was left, removing the cover. Grilled chicken, roasted veggies and a salad - all my favorite. Huh, I wonder if this is a coincidence or not. He IS your mate. I’m sure you two have a lot in common. Remi’s right - maybe he likes the same things I do. Eli and I are very similar on certain things, it would be the same with Hunter.
I pretty much inhale my lunch and start unpacking my bag, hanging my shirts and dresses up in the closet so they don’t get wrinkled. All that’s left was my toothbrush, hair brush, makeup and soaps.
I make my way over to the bathroom and I realize then and there I never want to leave this room. I could live here forever. Unlike Eli’s bathroom, this bathroom is completely modern in style - a turquoise tiled floor, white walls, white counters, a huge soaker tub that could fit 5 people easily, and a massive walk in shower covered in white, glossy subway tiles. The shower didn’t have any doors or any walls separating it from the rest of the room - it was wide open, apart of the room. Everything was sleek and sharp. I couldn’t stand it any longer and started stripping my clothes off, excited to try out the bath. Once the tub was full, I stepped in and instantly relaxed. The hot water and steam melting all my worries and frustrations away. I find myself dozing off......
All of a sudden the bathroom door is slammed open - I jolt up right, ready for some sort of attack, but there’s only a frantic Hunter, looking like he was about to lose his mind. “REESE! What the hell? I knocked on your door and was yelling for you! I thought something happened to you!” Hunter is seething, his eyes shifting back and forth from their beautiful turquoise to pitch black, as he tries to get control of his wolf.
“I-I’m sorry, I must’ve fallen asleep in the bath.” As soon as I say this, I realize I’m completely naked and he can see all of me. He closes his eyes and he’s still for a few moments, breathing in deeply. He opens his eyes and he’s got his wolf under control - pushed to the back of his mind. “Get some clothes on and meet me out here,” he orders as he shuts the bathroom door behind him. Jeez, how long was I asleep? What has him so worked up? It’s not like I went anywhere - and no one even knows I’m here besides a handful of pack members.
Hunter’s POV
I left Reese to get unpacked and settled in before my meetings. I needed to handle a few things before introducing her as my Luna and mate, especially with a particular she-wolf.
My first meeting this afternoon was with Sasha. Sasha is one of the strongest female warriors in my pack and she also threw herself at me all the damn time. She’s been my play thing on and off for the past year - Dax and Elaine hate her, but she’s fun in the bedroom and takes my mind off of work.
I get to my office and just start to flip through some reports left on my desk when I smell that almost too sweet scent - in walks Sasha wearing what looks like club attire, not even bothering to knock. “Alpha, you wished to see me?” She says as she makes her way behind my desk, sitting on the desk while pushing out her chest towards me. She pushes her long black hair behind her shoulder, exposing her neck. This show of submission would drive any other unmated alpha crazy with the need to show dominance, but after finding Reese all it does is irritates me. I want her off my desk and out of my office now. How could I have honestly thought about making this she-wolf my chosen mate and Luna? What was I thinking??
“Sasha, out of respect for you and your family, I wanted this to come directly from me,” I start and Sasha starts grinning from ear to ear probably thinking I’m about to ask her to become my Luna, “our relationship ends now and you will no longer be allowed access to the Alpha floor.” Sasha’s grin disappears immediately and it’s replaced by furious daggers staring right back at me. “And why the hell is that?” She’s standing now, inching her way closer to me as if she means to challenge me. “Sasha, back the f**k off me unless you want to be put in your place.” I warn her through gritted teeth. My wolf and I don’t like being challenged or disrespected - we will have no problem putting this skank in her place. “Oh, I like the sound of that,” she says, reaching out to me. It only takes those words and I’m grabbing her by the neck, raising her off of her feet so she’s at eye level with me, “Let me repeat myself one more time. Your services are no longer needed. You will not step foot on the Alpha floor again or I’ll have you thrown in the dungeons,” I say as I toss her to the floor and walk out of the room. I don’t even bother looking back at her - I could care less if I hurt her, just as long as she knew I was serious in my command to stay away from me.
I make my way to the board room one floor down and sit through 2 hours of discussions about our borders, recent rogue threats and pack member updates. I’ve barely paid any attention - all I can think about is Reese and what she’s doing right now. I feel awful for leaving her alone her first day here - what kind of mate does that? At 3:59, I jump up from my seat and excuse myself, earning some confused looks, but I don’t care - I have to see Reese right now.
I run up the flight of stairs to the Alpha suites and walk down the hall towards Reese’s room. I wanted her to stay in my room, but I didn’t want to put too much pressure on her. We just met and we don’t even know each other very well - I don’t want to screw this up by jumping on her as soon as I’m alone in a bedroom with her.
I get to her door and knock lightly. No answer. I knock a little louder, “Reese, it’s me! Are you decent?” I say, not wanting to storm in if she’s naked. Still no answer - I start to feel my wolf pacing and start worrying. What if Sasha came directly here? What if someone told Sasha about Reese and she’s done something to her? I find myself barging into her room, but nothing is out of place. However, Reese isn’t anywhere in sight. “Reese? Where are you? Reese!” I walk over to the balcony and look over it, praying to the Goddess she didn’t fall from the balcony or worse, be pushed over. She’s no where out here!
The bathroom door is closed, but she would’ve heard me out here. I storm to the door and jiggle the handle - it’s locked. s**t! Did Sasha get to her? My wolf is howling, trying to take control, trying to find his mate. Before I can think clearly, my wolf has me breaking the lock on the door as I slam it open. Reese jumps in the tub, looking like she just woke up.
Thank the Goddess she’s okay - my wolf is still fighting me for control. Wanting to run to his mate and hold her. It takes everything in me to calm him down and have complete control back.
Reese’s POV
I dry off and realize I didn’t bring clean clothes in here with me. He’s already seen me naked twice, I’m just walking out in a towel. No big deal. I can do this. I make sure my towel is nice and tight, no room to come undone and I open the door, trying to beeline it for the closet. Hunter is sitting on the edge of the bed, his head in his hands. Why was he so worried? Had he been knocking for a while? He doesn’t even look up as I make my way to the closet.
I shut the door behind me and pull on a pair of black skinny jeans, a tank and a cardigan. Pulling my hair up and grabbing my chuck’s, I walk out and sit next to Hunter on the bed. “Hey, is everything okay?” I ask him, worried I’ve really upset him.
Hunter looks up and I swear I can feel his emotions - worry and fear - radiating off of him. “Hunter, I didn’t mean to scare you. I must’ve been more tired than I realized. I promise falling asleep in the bath isn’t a normal thing for me,” I joke, but he doesn’t seem to find any of this funny.
“Is there...something you’re not telling me? What has you so upset?” I dare ask him. I can see his hands are slightly shaking and he notices me eyes on his hands. He stands up in one fluid motion and puts his hands in his pockets, away from my prying eyes.
“Reese, I need to tell you something, but I promise you it’s handled now and you have nothing to worry about,” he starts and I feel my stomach bottom out as he continues, “Before I found you, I had given up on my fated mate. You know 23 is old for an Alpha to find their mate - almost unheard of. I figured I didn’t have a fated mate, so I decided I would take a chosen mate.” I can feel my heart pounding, my chest about to burst in pain. Please don’t tell me he’s marked another she-wolf.
“I chose a she-wolf from this pack and she knew those were my plans for her. My first meeting when we got back today was with her. I told her I won’t be going through with my plans of marking her and making her Luna of Crescent Moon. When I came to your room and you didn’t answer, I panicked thinking she had hurt you and I was the reason for that. My wolf was raging in anger, thinking I had allowed something to happen to you,” he finishes telling me, looking to me for any kind of response.
Remi, what do I do? He had a she-wolf chosen - already had plans in motion to make her Luna. Remi whimpered the entire time he was telling me everything. Ree, he didn’t mark her. All we can do is thank the Moon Goddess her timing was perfect. “Have you slept with this she-wolf? Was the council involved in choosing her as the Chosen Luna?” I barely get the words out of my mouth. I already know the answer to the first question - of course he’s slept with her.
“Yes, I slept with her. No, the council wanted me to wait for my fated mate. They didn’t agree with my choice, but understood my need for a Luna,” he answers me. I’m hurt by his confession of sleeping with her, but I’m relieved the council wanted his fated mate to take the place as Luna. That makes it easier on me. “While I’m not thrilled you’ve slept with this she-wolf, I can’t be mad at you for being proactive and cutting ties with her immediately,” I say, my words carefully thought out, “As for you being worried about another she-wolf harming me, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m from a Beta family and grew up with Eli’s family. I’ve been training as a warrior my entire life. Any she-wolf that has a problem with me better know what they are getting into before they lift a hand towards me.” I’m no damsel in distress and I won’t be backed into a corner by any wolf. I can take care of myself, thanks to my dad and brother’s training.
“Reese, I promise you are it for me. I barely know you, but I know you are what..WHO I need as my mate and Luna of my pack.” Hunter gets down on his knees in front of me, grabbing my hands, almost pleading with me to believe him.
You know what you need to do now, right? Of course I did. I needed to show these she-wolves who was dominant. I needed to show them they didn’t want to cross me, their true Luna.
“Hunter, I’d like to join the next training session with the pack.”
