Chapter 11: Home Again-1

269 Words

Chapter 11: Home Again There was no leisurely stretch when I awoke Sunday morning. I didn’t really have room for it in that twin bed. On the plus side, the sun wasn’t nearly as high in the sky as it had been when I’d woken up yesterday morning. And double-bonus, the smell of bacon hung in the air, mingling with coffee and possibly cinnamon buns. I rolled out of bed and rushed through my wash-up before heading downstairs. It was an older house, so anytime someone walked around upstairs, whoever was downstairs knew it. This time it was Dad who emerged from the kitchen as I came down the stairs, locked eyes with me, and approached. “Sleep okay?” he asked. “Yeah. Great.” “No more stomach issues?” One side of his mouth quirked up. I snorted out a wavering laugh. “No. I…uh…feel fine, now.”
