Anna's pov.
My father also disapproved of my marriage with Adams. I knew who was behind all this. Xavier must have talked to him. I had my first ever argument with my father just because of Mia. If she hadn't filled Xavier with the wrong information, this wouldn't have happened.
Everything was going so well. We were so happy. Then all my dreams shattered into pieces. I had no idea what I ever did wrong with her.
I thought I should talk to Adam. We could find a way together. If he spoke to my dad and Xavier, maybe they could believe him. I could not think of any other option.
I drove towards Adam’s hotel the first thing in the morning, desperate to find a solution. I didn't want to fight with my family for just marrying Adams. Hell! I didn't even love him, but he was good enough for me, as he understood me. I would have agreed with them if they disapproved of Adam when meeting him for the first time. But after Mia's interference, I couldn't take it. Pilling up the car in the hotel's parking lot, I rushed towards Adam's room.
“Adam! Everything is messed up. Dad and Xavier refused our marriage.” I could not wait but blurt it out when Adam opened his room door.
“Why? I mean, what happened?” He asked, furrowing.
“You were right about Mia. She is the one who filled Xavier with all the poison about you, and now he hates you. He has warned me if I dare to marry you. He won't let this happen. I am scared that he is determined to separate us," I told him everything.
“s**t! This isn't good. She ruined all our plans,” he grunted.
“Plans? What are you talking about? Which plan?” I asked, frowning.
“I mean… we.. we are going so good with… with taking our relationship one level up. Now we have reached zero again, and we have to start all over again,” he scowled.
“Adam, we will try to talk to my family together. I am sure together we will convince them for our marriage,” I tried to be positive in hopes he would agree with me.
“This is not so easy, Anna. You know how your cousin is. He won't agree if his wife is against our marriage. Everything is so messed up. I can't think about anything,” he said and punched the wall furiously.
“What are you doing, Adam?” I held his hand, looking for injury. But he pushed me aside as if he didn't like me to touch him.
What happened to him? He didn't seem to be himself.
“What has happened to you, Adam? You are behaving very weirdly. It's not you,” I couldn't help but ask.
“So, what do you expect from me? Should I dance with joy because all I planned for so long has gone in vain in a second,” he pulled his hair, and my eyes went wide at his confession.
“W.. what do you mean? You planned all this to marry me? Why?” I yelled.
He swore under his breath and shook his head.
“No, no, you got me wrong, sweetheart. I didn't mean that. I mean, everyone knows about our marriage, and if it doesn't happen, my reputation will be spoiled, and it will affect my business. Try to understand that this marriage is very important for my business and my image,” he sighed.
“I am sorry, baby. I was out of my mind. So I behave like a jerk. But I promise it won't happen again,” he said, and coming closer, he cupped my face in his hands.
“Do you believe me, baby?'' He asked, and if he had asked this a few hours ago, my answer would be yes. But now, I doubted I could believe him because seeing the change in him scared me to my gut.
When I didn't answer him, he narrowed his eyes at me for a fraction of a second, then again, his eyes softened, and he smiled.
“I said I am sorry, sweetheart. It won't happen again. I swear. Just for one last time, can you please trust me?” He pleaded.
“What do you want, Adam?” I wanted to know what he had in his mind.
“Let's elope,” he suggested.
“What? No. I mean, I can't do this. I want to get married with the blessings of my elders and my family,” I affirmed.
“Then our marriage is never going to happen. Your Mafia cousin will never let this happen in this life.” He gritted his teeth.
“Whatever, Adam, I won't elope, and that's final,” I declared.
“Then I have no other choice. I am sorry, sweetheart,” he said, and before I could process the meaning of his words, I felt a needle prick my neck.
“What did you do?” I hissed and held my neck. Then everything became blurry in front of my eyes, and my head began to spin.
The last thing I remembered was I fell to the ground, and everything went black.

Xavier's pov.
My head was still aching, thinking that girl was really very stubborn. She was not going to listen to me so easily. But I was determined to make her realise her mistake. I would make her see the real face of Adam. Only then would she believe me.
Last night she walked out of my house in anger and I was also very angry, so I didn't stop her. Since morning, I had been trying her phone, and she was not picking up. Her phone was switched off after a while. Fu.ck. This girl was really a pain in my ass.
I knew she must be angry. Last night, after she left my house, I called uncle Francesco and told him everything about Adam. He also agreed to stop the marriage. He was also surprised that Anna hadn’t told us about Adam’s real identity. Despite knowing everything about him, she decided to marry him. I just wondered how Adam had tricked my innocent cousin into going against her family. She had never hidden anything from us. For every problem, she used to come to me. She trusted me the most, and now Adam had won her trust, making her believe him more than me.
He might be really very smart, but not more than Italian Mafia king Xavier Leonardi. Before reaching my cousin, he had to go through me.
This guy, Adam, had a really mysterious personality. Though all the evidence about his past was not available, I could dig out the secret from a dead body, and he was an alive man. It wouldn't be that difficult for me, though it would take some time. My phone started ringing, and an unknown number flashed on the screen. I swiped the answer button.
“Xavier Leonardi?” A mysterious voice came through the phone.
“Yes, speaking, Who is this?” I asked.
He laughed weirdly, making me scowl.
“That's not important. The thing you should be worried about is that your cousin is missing,” he said.
“What the fu.ck are you saying? Who are you, and do you know who you are talking to?” I warned him.
He laughed again.
“You can never reach me, Xavier Leonardi. And I have good news for you. But that news is only good for me. I doubt you will be happy to hear that your cousin will be sold to the world's most dirty brothel. She will spend her whole life serving a different man every night,” he gritted out, making my blood boil in anger.
“Shut the fuc.k up, you bastard. Once I catch you, you won't be able to survive seeing another sunrise. That would be the last day of your life. You just wait and live till I come for you,” I yelled.
“You can't do anything, Xavier. Now you will feel the pain of being helpless and not able to save your loved ones. I want to see you suffer until your death. I want to watch you die in guilt. You can't do anything to save Anna. Because the bidding has started, and she will be sold to the highest bidder. The daughter of the Leonardi family would please a new man every night. What a shame on the name of the prestigious Leonardi family,” he grunted in hatred.
Who could he be? He seemed to hate me extremely.
“Where is she? Tell me right now,” I growled.
“You cannot find her. Not in this life. She has been sent so far. No one can reach her,” he informed in his dirty voice.
“Listen, you bastard, wait for me. Once I catch you, I will kill you so brutally that you will regret this day when you provoke me to find you,” I warned him once more.
“Tsk… Tsk… Xavier, I pity you. You don't need to worry about me. You should worry about your cousin. She will have a life worse than death, and you will all have to live the same life in shame and guilt.” And a beeping sound of disconnected phone calls came.
Who was this motherfuc.ker? I had to find out. But first, I had to find Anna before it was too late. I punched some numbers into my phone.
"Matteo!"
