Jasmine’s Point of view
If people said I was crazy, I could not oppose or deny it. Just look at me? I am just about to agree with the stupidest thing I have ever done in my entire life.
“So, what do you think about that?” Miguel asked me as I looked at him in awe after he had just finished explaining to me what I would be doing.
“What exactly am I going to be doing?” I questioned him as he swallowed hard, it was like he was trying to come up with the right words to use to describe what he wanted me to be doing.
“Well, you will be hired to be someone’s girlfriend,” he said, gulping down whatever lump was on his face. I sat back choking back the laughter that threatened to come out.
I scoffed.
“Hired What?”
“Hired girlfriend will only be for a while until he sorts himself out” he explained to me as I reluctantly nodded my head.
“Until it comes back to bite me in my stupid ass. Miguel, this is bad.” I said to him, standing up from the chair and going to stand opposite him.
“You will be making two grand a month, he will also throw in incentives” he explained to me as I scoffed.
“Miguel, such a deal is dangerous. People develop feelings, things start to get complicated. I can’t do it even for three grand”, I said to him. I was not much for the idea of being someone to make such deals because I would easily develop feelings for people.
“Five grand, medical insurance and I will clear all your debts. It will only be for a few months.” He insisted on standing up and walking to me as I inhaled deeply. The deal was very tempting for me, but just thinking about it I shook my head in fear.
“What should I do to make you change your mind?” He asked me as he came closer to me, looking in my eyes to see if he could read my emotions.
“Well, how about…?” I started saying and a mischievous smile appeared on my face.
“Done! Whatever it is that you want, I will do it” he said, without hearing what I was about to say to him.
I chuckled softly as I folded my arms looking at him “You must be desperate!” he nodded his head like what I just said was true, yet here I was thinking I was the only person desperate.
“Fine! I will do it for five grand, a rented apartment, and health care. Also, you will clear my debts and it needs to be for six months even after I am done with the craziness”, I said to him, and he nodded his head.
“No problem. I will do that” he said to me as I nodded my head, looking at him. He walked over to me with a smile on his face.
“Are you tired? Why don’t you go home so I can meet you later?” He questioned me as I nodded my head in agreement.
“Here, the password is the same as the previous apartment if you remember it,” he said to me as I looked at the keys. I smiled at myself, thinking how loyalty pays.
“See you at home,” I said, wanting to walk away, but quickly changed my mind, turning to look at him. He seemed to be getting ready to continue working.
“That lady who brought me here. What was her name again?” I inquired from him as he raised his eyebrows in shock.
“What?” he asked me.
“Was it Maddie or Madison?” I questioned him and he scoffed, correcting me.
“it’s Madison. What about her?” He questioned me as I shrugged my shoulders before walking away.
“Jasmine Carter. I hope you will not go around trying to be friendly with her, stay away from her” He warned. pointing at me as I smirked proudly, nodding my head.
Miguel was one of those lucky people in my family, born to a white mother and an African American father, it was easy for him to move out of the Jewish ways and live as he get pleased.
“I will see you at home,” I said, walking away. I left Miguel’s office and heard of the parking lot where I had parked my car before driving to Miguel’s place.
I could not stop thinking of what I had just agreed to do with Miguel. It was the most stupid thing I could ever do in this pathetic life of mine.
I pulled over in the parking lot of the apartment he was staying in. The place looked like a freaking hotel with the standards it had. I stepped out of the car and grabbed my handbag and a small bag that had all the things that I needed for my day-to-day life.
I walked over to the entrance and made my way to the elevator. I looked at the text he had sent me with the apartment number as I pressed the buttons on the elevator.
I sighed heavily as I waited for the elevator to take me to the place where I wanted to go. I finally got on the level and stepped out, walking to the door in front of me.
I punched in the codes that I remembered. “Three-Six-Nine-Six-eight……” I spoke outwardly, shaking my head as I thought about how basic my cousin could be. The door opened after I entered the tenth digit. I grabbed my bag from the ground where I had placed it and stepped inside the house.
The light automatically went on and I looked around to see where I was going to go next. I stepped into the living room, which had the perfect white furniture and grey things all over.
I am not one to reminisce over such things, so I just try to find a room where I can put my things for me to take a shower. I looked to the left of the room and there was a staircase that led upstairs and exactly right beneath it was an open kitchen. I sighed heavily, taking the stairs.
I walked upstairs to look for a room I was going to get, I opened each one of the doors to find something for myself. I opened the third door and it looked like it was a guest room. I walked in and looked around where I could place my things.
I placed the bag on the ground and the handbag on the table before looking in the closet to see if there was anything and, luckily, it was empty.
I went to the bathroom, and it was empty without any shampoo or shower gel. I walked back to the bag I had come with and took out a few things from the bag that I needed.
I looked at the bed with no sheets on it and thought I should get some from my car. I did not know how long I was going to stay here there, so I needed to make sure that I had only a few things from my car.
I took off my clothes and grabbed my towel, wrapping it around me and took the shower gel, going to take a warm shower before finding something to eat.
After I finished, I made my way to Miguel’s room to find another towel that I could use. I entered the room, and I was welcomed by a huge room with a big bed in the middle of the room. On the left side of the bed was a top-to-the-bottom window with curtains open.
Why would he leave the curtains open? I inwardly asked myself as I walked over to the right side of the bed where I saw a door. I walked over to check if it was the closet.
I opened the door, and it was a walk-in closet with another door on the immediate right. I noticed the towels folded up on the shelf on the right and I grabbed one for myself while looking at the room. I smiled at myself before turning around and going to the room I had allocated myself.
After I dried my hair, I put on a t-shirt and shorts without a bra. I went downstairs to the kitchen to find food in his fridge. He had nothing but bottles of alcohol and water without food in the house.
I sighed heavily before deciding to grab an apple and heading to the living room. I took my phone to go through all the conversations I have had in the last two months, also going through my email and social media accounts. By the time it was evening, I did not even realize it.
I only wished that time would move fast for me. I heard the door unlocking and I quickly sat up.
“How the hell do you have nothing in your house? I mean I was trying to” I was ready to blast Miguel off when I stopped after my eyes met with someone. I was awfully familiar with.
“I am sorry. I didn’t…” I apologized quickly after I noticed that Miguel was in the company of his boss.
He stood there looking at me without any expression on his face from head to toe and his hand in his pocket. I pursed my lips together as I tilted my head to look at Miguel.
“Is this her?” The man’s husky monotone voice came.
“Yes. She isn’t always like this, and she is also…” Miguel rushed over trying to explain to the man as I widened my eyes, he pointed to me with his chin, giving me a signal that something was wrong with my appearance.
“Find someone else. This is insulting to me” he bluntly said and turned around to leave as Miguel sighed heavily, looking at me as I shrugged my shoulders.
“Did you really think she would make it as my girlfriend?” He hissed at Miguel, who just lowered his head without saying anything.
“Sir! Sir! Wait!” I rushed after him while hitting myself on the table. I ran after him despite feeling the pain in my leg. I rushed in front of him while Miguel shouted after me.
“Sir, I know right now you think I can’t do it and I don’t look like someone who can be of your class, but just give me time. I, adjust quickly, and you won’t regret it”, I pleaded to try to hold his hand as he moved his hand away from me. Miguel shook his head, stopping me from touching him. I was the true definition of a hypocrite.
I swallowed hard as I looked at him. “I am not a perfect person and sometimes I lose my senses, but I know what loyalty is, and trust me, I won’t betray you”. I tried to pitch myself to him and he just pushed me aside, going into the elevator without responding to me.
I sighed heavily as I turned to look at him. “I need this. Please, I will do anything you ask of me”, I pleaded with him, and he closed the doors of the elevator without responding to me.
I exhaled deeply, turning to Miguel, who shrugged his shoulders.
“Why didn’t you tell me that it’s your boss that I have to pretend to be his girlfriend? I would have made a perfect impression.” I complained and he just stood there.
“Next time communicate” I bluntly said, walking past him. Then into the house. That is when I felt the pain in my knee. I looked down to see the small cut that I had.
“f**k!” I cussed.
What was I going to do now that I was not looking like the perfect image he had of his hired girlfriend?
