CHAPTER NINE Before reaching the livery, Reece made a short detour to the guesthouse. Fieyn gave him a look but didn’t attempt to stop him. Instead, he waited outside whilst Reece went through the door. It was cool in the tiny reception room. The slight aroma of home cooking wafted from the rear of the building. Moving directly to the small desk, he picked up the tiny brass bell and rang it. He waited. Nothing stirred and Reece went through the door that led, he believed, to the kitchen area. Here, the smell of home-cooking filled a compact room. A well-scrubbed table, laden with plates, cups, and bowls, dominated the middle part whilst against the far wall a solid farmhouse range stood.
