CHAPTER SEVEN “Who was that man?” asked Henry as he emerged from the kitchen. His employer, Richard Quince, was helping himself to a cup of coffee from the pot on the large table. “His name’s Bourne. He’s here to do me a little job.” “Hell, Mr Quince, anything you need doing me and the boys can—” “No, Henry. That’s just it. I don’t want you or the boys getting involved. You’ve already introduced yourself to that stranger and that was unfortunate. I don’t want any of us – you, me, the boys – being associated with anything that might happen.” “What does that mean?” “It means, you keep out of it. I don’t want you going back to town and talking to that stranger again, you understand?” “Sure I do, but—” “There ain’t no ‘buts’ about it, Henry.” Smiling, he pointed towards Henry’s crotch.
