CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE Ezra Soames pricked up his ears as the voice came to him, seemingly from the very air itself. “Come home to me now, my lovely. Come home to me. These men are dangerous. They are dangerous for us all, my lovely. Do what you must then come home to me.” He searched the surroundings for her. His mother. The only one who had ever accepted him loved him. She was here, impossible as it may seem, but she was so close. Her words, soothing despite being full of warning, brought a warmth to his body. But where was she?
