Get Out of Attention

Denial for second, Lucas slowly turned his head on the ‘vikings’ ride.

*Creak creak

The ride started to move an inch forward then it swept off the rubbles in the place as it started to swing.

“Oh no no no!” He said. He turned to look at his companions who had the same expression. Why did the ride start to move?

There was no time to think hard. He starts running towards the ride. He let his bleeding self push the limits in his endurance. There is no time to think.

It didn’t even take a minute before he spotted the first hunchback mutant charging from afar but it growled loudly and hungrily at him. Lucas tripped but he immediately pulled himself back up. Unlike Elijah who jumps easily on the obstacles. Lucas is clumsy and pitifully climbs up and throws himself, not caring for additional damages he incur on the process. The swinging is a bit higher and faster after the rubbles on the way had been pushed away.

“UWARGH!!!!”

Standing on a fallen debris is a Hunchback Mutant who spotted Lucas immediately. It’s eyes looked especially red in the dark. So scary that Lucas backed to ride, almost getting hit by the swing.

“UWARGH!!!”

Another one had appeared, it appears so that this one had climbed the sides of the ride. Other mutants had gathered and surrounded the ride venue. Since the half ship is located in an elevated place and needs stairs to get to the ride itself, it will take at least a few seconds for them to get up there.

*BANG BANG BANG

The mutant that he made eye contact with had arrived at the gates of the ride.

*SWISH

The ride is swinging a little higher again. He is dangerously close to it.

He is now trapped between possible death and certain death.

*CRASH

The gates are now loose and as the mutant opens it, the other mutant that climbed had also spotted him. It is standing on the other side of the half ship.

Possible death. Lucas chose where is most likely to survive. As the ship swings up he backs a little to the ride. He will now definitely touch the ride. Since there is a digged part of the ride. The other ghoul had gone down there.

The swing is going down. The other one growled one last time before it charged.

*SWIIIIIIIIISH

Lucas jumped as high as he could. Underneath him is a pair of long hands reaching to him, and at his back, nearing his ankle is another pair. He begins to fall right to the hands of a ghoul.

*Swish!

The ride took him away first.

It crushed the ghoul’s upper body and sliced off the arms of the other.

*Bam thud thud

Meanwhile, Lucas rolled down inside the ride as it swung up. At the peak it felt like it stopped for a moment and when it started going down, he felt like his heart would stop.

*SWISH

As it swung back, Lucas rolled down to the edge. He doesn’t have time to calm himself. He grabbed on whatever he could grab into as he slid hanging like a prize to be grabbed. Especially beneath him is now full of ghouls. His position is perfect to test the ghoul’s long arms.

It stopped again briefly on the top before it swung down. Again, his heart felt like it’s going to burst. He had held his screams for a while now and it is starting to strain his heart.

*SWISH

His sides are being pierced by sharp edges of the broken ride. As he approached the middle and lower ground, he felt several touches on his body but maybe because of the velocity, they were slapped away. Approaching the peak again. It felt higher again. The metal he was holding into detached itself and threw Lucas up as it reached up. As if in sequence, The ride had stopped momentarily and caught Lucas who desperately reached for it as it swung forth again. This time, even if his body was already screaming in pain from landing and rolling, he hugged and put himself in between the rides seat and rested there as the ride went back and forth.

He could hear the growling.

*Thud thud

With tight space in between ride seating. He only moves inside it more safely than earlier.

“Hey man.” A sudden voice greeted him.

Lucas flinched but as he looked up, he saw Elijah. He is sitting in the back row.

“Looks like we will be here for aw—ieeek” Elijah grabbed his chest as the ride slid down.

“Just how much will this swing high?” He complained. It’s almost 90 degrees swinging now.

Lucas, who sat down, remained quiet “....”

The ride swings back again, he breaths in as it takes him up in the sky, his legs begin to feel cold. He can’t control its vibrating movement. He laid hard on his back on the seat, pushed solid his feet on the ground and gripped the rusty metal handle in front of him.

“...!!!!!!” The flight view is ten times scarier because of the lack of a safety belt.

The second stop at the peak made it hard for their heart to take.

“...Ah.. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!” Elijah was the first to scream it all out.

Lucas wanted to hush him down but the one ride swing made his brains blank and exhausted.

‘I, I can’t do this anymore…’ Lucas wanted to pass out but if he did he would fall to his death then become a dinner.

The next swing, Elijah screamed again…but after a few more swings, they began to get their minds straight.

“It’s slowing down.” Lucas mumbled.

Like every other ride, it is meant to stop at some point… and that point gave birth to another problem. The ghouls are trying to grab onto the ship. With it slowing down, they are literally a few swings away.

“Did you get the item?” Lucas asked.

“I’m not sure if this is it but I just grab whatever it is. What should we do?” Elijah asked.

*Grab

“UWARGH!!!” a ghoul had successfully grabbed into the broken part of the ship. As if it timed its jumping just like how Lucas did. It was a scary thought.

“Ah s**t s**t s**t!” Elijah cursed as he went out of his seat to back out. Lucas bit his lips as they watched the ghoul desperately crawl in. The swing is backing up and It would be hard climbing in that position but as soon as it swings back, the ghoul will be able to climb aboard.

That’s how he predicted and it did happen. The mutant monster was able to stand and take a hold on the seat to avoid being thrown over.

This is the difference between regular undeads and mutants… These monsters have a little brain left to function. Which makes it hard for them to be killed.

*BAM!

The ghoul tried to grab Lucas but Lucas went under the seat which resulted in the ghoul damaging the ship. The ride was unmaintained and rusty, with force like, it can be damaged or even make a hole in it.

“Uwargh! Arguwhhh! Awareghhh!” It roared loud.

*thud

Another pair of long arms had grabbed railings.

At this rate, they will die even before the ride ends. The ride is slowing down faster than they are ready.

“HELP ME QUICK!” Lucas said and started kicking a row of seats!

Elijah, who is out of wits, returns and they begin kicking it hurriedly.

“HARDER!!” Lucas is impatient and pressured. Two or three more had started climbing.

*BAG BAG BAG BAG

It was too late to keep it all silent since Elijah's scream from earlier made sure they were spotted.

*BAG BAG BAG BAG

Less than a meter from Lucas, is the ghoul. It is staring down at him with it’s reddened eyes and open razor teeth.

“Haa..” Lucas slowly exhales, as the monster extends its hands on him. Instead of seeing a a human eating monster, Lucas was reminded of why he is here.

‘Andrea!!’ His thoughts screamed.

*BAG!!!

Lucas was able to kick the seat loose. As the ride goes back. The chair slides down like clock’s hand squeezing the monster to its side before gravity pulls it back to the ground. Killing it on impact.

One down and 4 and still counting more to go.

The next swing will not be able to kill the mutants by just falling. That’s how low the swing had turned…

The end is nearing… and so is the returning seat. Elijah pulled Lucas to his side to avoid getting it. With the hole made by the previous ghoul, the seat was stuck to it. Avoiding squeezing both of them.

“I think it’s better if I get killed instead.” Elijah hopelessly said.

“...!” Lucas stared at it while growls become more and more louder. He grabbed Elijah’s hand and said.

“Trust me. We will get out here.”
